Very unfortunate for the guy. Got a botched circumcision, got raised as a girl, later revealed he was a male, did well until unfortunate events happened, then shot himself. I feel bad for him.

Its a strong arguement that a brain is not socialized to identify as male/female but is biologically male or female.

It is possible that the person had mental health issues beyond being raised the wrong way. But this is horriffic that it happened over a needless mutilation out of religious ignorance.

One obvious lesson from David Reimer’s story is that gender identity cannot be imposed by upbringing alone. Genes and prenatal hormones do matter.

Another lesson—perhaps less obvious—is that nuances of sex and gender exist, and if we ignore them, this can endanger those who do not fit neatly into a male or female box.

But no lesson that routine male infant circumcision should be outlawed? Typical.
