A part that I found interesting, but not addressed in his analysis, is the fact that in the scene out in the wilderness mum stops daughter from attacking brother. Somewhat reminicient of Jordan Peterson's

women have to reign in their crazy harpy sisters (or in this case daughters)

The thing that I find most interesting (and revealing) about this whole concept is that this sudden power is unearned.

The women didn't work for it. They didn't have to do anything to get it. It just appeared. Like menstruation or an "accidental" pregnancy. Or any other fairy godmother wish-fulfillment story.

As origin stories go, that's a rather low effort one.

Is this show good? I watched MHD's analysis, and it sounds like maybe the initial setup is "yay, women have this new power," but that there is a turn like, "hold on, women can't be trusted with this power." I haven't seen the show, but am just going from MHD.

I was taller than everyone in my family by the time I was thirteen, and my Dad was not a small man (he was 6'1"). With all the hormones and brain development still happening as a teenager, I really believe that young men – especially those who are physically stronger than the average – are almost forced as they mature to learn/acquire strong empathy and self-control as they grow into adults. That was my experience at least, and that lesson is the one thing that I notice is always missing from the long history of "dystopian female revenge fantasies" (interestingly, I can name two of these off the top of my head in the form of YA sci-fi books from all the way back in the 1980's: In the Mothers' Land and The Gate to Women's Country, so this misandry is not a recent trend by any means). Anyway, because of my experiences growing up male, I know that if I didn't learn good interpersonal skills and self-composure quickly, I would have to see the other people around me suffer as a result of my anger, fear, jealousy, etc. And unless you are a psychopath or sociopath, directly causing pain in others will naturally upset and distress a person. Perhaps it is because of the fact that proxy violence is indirect (and therefore the "fairer" sex – that far prefers this method of hurting others – can use this tactic and never have to face the consequences of their actions), or perhaps it is some other factor(s), but in my experience I find it is most often men who understand the reality of "the responsible use of power" as more than just some distant, theoretical concept. I think that's because it has been drilled home into our brains by dozens of small mistakes even before we can legally be called an adult. That learned caution is unfortunately something that only males will commonly experience as they mature.

I don't know if this was discussed earlier in the linked video or not, but it wasn't mentioned in the final twenty minutes that I caught live, so it's a point I think should be made. In the real world, no one person has the ability to just go on a violent rampage, because all it really takes is two other people of even medium strength to stop or inflict serious injury to that recognized threat. So even though most men could use their physical strength at any time to satisfy their own wants or needs, the fact is that they don't, and the few that do become violent are very often stopped and punished before they can cause much harm. The simple truth is that most men don't use their strength unless the situation warrants it, such as keeping others safe. And that's where The Power and stories like it really portray the entire female sex as hideous, because they never show the equivalent of the small group of men who stand up to the bully, and say that attacking those who are weaker is immoral and wrong. Those good examples don't exist at all in these gruesome tales of revenge. There is also no societal sanction whatsoever – like simple enforcement of laws prohibiting murder – to this targeted genocide, and no one in these stories even thinks that men are worth protecting, or potentially sacrificing their own safety for. For these revenge fantasists, not even their own male family or friends are valued simply as human beings whose lives are important! This is probably because the author simply can't see past their own hatred of all men as a group, and so they write all of their characters with the same flaws that they themselves possess.

Lastly, there is another very important and well established psychological effect to consider here. When something bad happens to a man at the hands of another person, the default thought in society's mind is: "Well, he's a man, so he must have done something wrong at some point in his life to deserve it". That kind of "original sin" attitude combines with the previous "collective guilt" man-hating to make this kind of genocidal wish-fulfillment appear acceptable, at least if you're predisposed and primed to believe this extreme prejudice against all men, which today's society unfortunately is.

Now don't take any of what I've said here the wrong way, because I still shake my head in disgust at what I see in these stories, but at least I can use this kind of objective analysis to understand how hateful, repugnant screeds like this get so much support, in the form of funding, media and PR, etc. Otherwise crap like this is enough to make me want to eat a bullet and just get off this deranged ride.
