OK, so... an attractive, successful (Irish Catholic) woman who's famous for having been involved in a number of TV shows designed around the concepts of men versus women, sexuality, and modelling (Strictly Come Dancing, Survival of the Fittest, Love Island), and who has been featured in a men's magazine...

...is presenting a show about incels, who see exactly that kind of excessive gender and sexuality focus as a problem in their own lives, because it rubs it in their faces that sex, sexuality, intimacy, and relationships are important and common in most peoples' lives, and are often presented on TV in ways which imply that only "sexy" people should have them...

...and several other accompanying shows which just happen to have themes of sexual violence and other criminal behaviours? Which, as u/phoenician_anarchist pointed out below, in pretty unfair, given that a defining feature of inceldom is that they don't have sex, rough or otherwise, and that cyber-stalking isn't something all, or exclusively, incels do.

I'll give her some credit, because the article does say that she "left feeling sorry for [the incel]" and that he was "a man who from a young age needed help and never got it".

But lots of articles and news pieces offer little token gestures like that, even though the main drive of the overall message is "men are evil, incels are terrorists, women most affected". So forgive me if I don't expect this to be even remotely balanced, fair, factual, or helpful to the discussion. This is mainstream media we're talking about, it doesn't often like to rock the boat and stand up for truth and accuracy, especially these days. Fear and hype bring in the eyeballs and the advertising cheques.

I'd also be pretty surprised if she covers women who participate in these acts as well. In a world where women are known to be nasty to each other on social media and buy copies of 50 Shades of Gray like they're the hottest thing since the sun was invented, I hardly think it would be reasonable to put those things entirely on men.

If we keep making fun of incels and villainised them instead of helping them, why should we expect change? If you keep treating someone like a monster, they will eventually become one.

It started as a documentary idea about incels - young men describing themselves as "involuntarily celibate", who hold misogynistic beliefs, with some launching violent attacks.

Starting off by poisoning the well, excellent form.

But this soon morphed into two more episodes on rough sex [...]

Ah yes, rough sex, that thing that incels are famous for having!

She has tackled serious issues before, however, joining campaigners in 2018 calling for the criminalisation of upskirting, the taking of an image or video under somebody's clothing.

Serious issues such as making something (which seems to be rather rare) that was already illegal even more illegal.

"It's not just stalking someone hiding in the bushes outside your house, this is ex-partners still having control over the Alexa in the house and the heating, and ordering pizza in the middle of the night."

Isn't ordering a pizza to be delivered to a random address in the middle of the night a classic dumb stoner prank?

We see her attend a BDSM workshop and a pornographic film shoot.

Whitmore asks if BDSM culture has "given men the excuse they need to get away with murder", highlighting the women killed by men who have gone on to claim in court it was a "sex game gone wrong".

Who was the primary target audience for 50 shades of grey again?

The primary driver for this kind of thing is women, I even remember an interview or something with some young lads who went along with this kind of stuff at the request of their partners even though it made them feel rather uncomfortable.

Men's fault though, those bastards... Especially those incels!

(And, as far as I can see, a lot of "BDSM culture" is pretty woke too...)

I haven't watched this "documentary" (nor do I plan to), but, she does seem to at least be trying a little more than the others...

I suppose that's quite strong praise for a journalist these days. 🤣🤣🤣

"incels" are lonely, traumatised men who have become bitter towards the world due to how they have been treated and constant rejection. They aren't bad human beings and deserve help from us all. Women contribute by mocking and belittling these men mercilessly and then have the audacity to cry wolf when said tortured man goes out into public and hurts somebody. Hypocrisy at its finest.

We really need to start to calling out the term "incel". It heavily insinuates that a man is worthless without female attention.
