So I was talking to a friend last night about how his divorce is going, and it got me thinking about what the process will be for my TBXW and I. We don’t have any kids but I’m wondering how splitting everything will go. Up until this point, I assumed that one of us would keep the house(probably me because I can afford it,) but now I don’t know. Any clarification and advice would be greatly appreciated.

We own a house(about 50% paid off, would sell for probably 15-20k left over after paying off loan. - I assume we’d have to sell and split the proceeds, unless I bought out her half?

We own a Jeep- her daily driver. We paid it off but she got a lien against it for a loan to start a business.

We own my daily driver that we’re still paying on, currently owe about 7k.

We have 50/50 ownership of my business(s-corp, service industry) that she helped run for a time, but she stepped away within the last year to open her own business in an adjacent industry. - The business brings in $150k per year but is not currently profitable, and has about 25k in debt. - Her company also rents an adjacent storefront, but that’s another story.

I don’t have any ownership of her company(also s-corp) - on track to finish the year close to 100k, and is currently at least somewhat profitable, although that would likely change if she paid herself a livable wage(she only clocks in for the hours she has a client.) - her business has about 20k in debt.

We also have a holding company 50/50 that we intended to use to purchase the building both of our businesses reside in, as well as two apartments. But as of yet, nothing has been done with this company.

We have a fair amount of stuff beyond this, but nothing of notable value. So, those are the main pieces on the board, in your experience, where do they all fall?

Ideally, I’d sell the house and move into one of the apartments in the building, and use my half of the proceeds to put a down payment on the property. I assume I could buy out her shares in my company without much issue.
