I have to strongly recommend walking barefoot outside at night. Somewhere it’s “safe” at night / you can see the ground like a “clean” sidewalk
I’ve walkt outside at night before, walkt outside bare foot before, both are nice (the 2nd much more), but not together (not counting short stuff in backyard). Did that tonight on way back from hike it’s fantastic , mood and confidence +600
It feels so good
I’m passionate about this. Personally I have severe issues with the feeling of socks and shoes I have since I was a kid , it was disabling when I was younger but as I got older the pain didn’t stop but I learnt to disconnect to survive. I’m always barefoot when I can be. But until now I thought walking barefoot in a public area like this I “had” to wear shoes or I’d be punisht (I was punisht as a kid). But it feels really bad to wear socks and shoes and I kept fighting urge to take them off. So tonight I said fuck it and people saw me but nobody punisht me. It feels freeing.
Other than the pain of shoes/socks it just feels good to feel the textures I walk on. I think that’s something most people can relate to if they try it. I think most people don’t understand how neglectful & frustrating it is to their brain to wear shoes every time you’re outside. You’re cutting off sensory feedback from the ground you walk on. That’s good sometimes but all the time is insane if you stop to think about it. Our brains are meant to get that sensory input from the ground. If any other guy with autism is reading this I even more strongly recommend for you
And walking outside in a safe place at night is nice. Less people, less cars, quiet. The night sky is beautiful. It’s cooler, better temperature, no sun to hurt your eyes or sunburn you. It feels freeing. So both walking bare foot & walking at night are great, combine them it’s perfect
The sidewalk is cooler, feels better at night. The darkness is relaxing, sensory input from eyes chills and focus is on input from feet.
I may sound weird but try it pls. You won’t know until you try it. Or at least try barefoot in the day if you haven’t. I’m really serious and passionate about this because I think it’s an important and helpful thing to do. I’m going to do this regularly now. Until it gets too cold.
