This is called he hypergamy and associative mating cycle.

Women are hypergamous so seek the best mate. When their environment fails to appeal to their hypergamy they will settle for equivalent, but not less. Such as when they get rejected by higher value men, and lower their standards. Couples end up relatively equal, but that doesn't represent the whole dating market or dating as a whole. Because more people couple that fail relationships than succesful ones who stay together. Its a survivorship bias.

I think it’s less about having a looks match and more about having a lifestyle match. People grow apart if they aren’t actively working to grow together on the same path. After all why would someone stay with someone else who doesn’t have the same desire to meet certain life goals and milestones?

I think it depends on one's own beliefs of beauty. When one puts self worth based on the attention they get, then it gives toxic ideas. when one puts self worth based on who they get , it forms toxic ideas.

In healthy relationship you're supposed to be proud of how you are and also proud of your partner, not make it fuel your ego and use it as an excuse to satisfy selfish desires.

I disagree. I think the best relationships are where the man is much more attractive than the woman. Yes, he will probably cheat if he's very attractive, but the woman will be so satisfied with him that she will stay.

If a man is equally attractive, then there is a very strong likelihood that the woman cheats if he doesn't have a lot of status and money, and if he's worse (especially much), then she might still cheat anyways. Because of hypergamy, men always need to be better than women.
