If we’re talking about Roman elite eduction, they were taught to read and write. Then they went to a grammarian, and finally (if the family was sufficiently wealthy) a rhetorician. The super rich might then go to Athens and study under some master.

All of this (maths apart) was based on studying classic literary texts: Horace, Vergil, and Homer (if they took Greek), and various speeches and letters of the likes of Cicero.

The point of it was to prepare a Roman aristocrat to order their thoughts and emotions (the discipline of language) and put these thoughts in a way to persuade and convince others.

But these things did NOT include Euclid, or the various engineering tomes that existed in Roman times. This stuff was “on the job training”, or at most they may borrow a book (scroll) from a library.

The water mills, aqueducts, sewers, roads and buildings were not taught in what we would recognise as an educational institution. And the people who did them were not part of the Roman political elite either.

Those who claim this stuff have little knowledge of ancient or medieval history, and imagine it to be present day without the internet. Or they’re deliberately lying.

Many of the advances that later medieval Europe (for example) had over Rome (and yes they had some) like the effective yoke for a horse, a plough that turned the earth over, windmills. These were all invented by anonymous people (likely men), who probably couldn’t read and write much less had some sort of elite education.

the highest education that most people, after french-revolution time, received was mainly to know how to read and write.

the top of the top of the elite could have access to go for more formal education, which kinda explains why most movements/revolutions were actually initiated by people at the top, who basically wanted more power... which includes feminism (and ironically explains the republic of terror in france after the revolution)

the denied access to education for women, was nothing more than a money issue, rather than a gender issue

It’s nonsense really. Education before the 19th Century was studying Theology, Studying Medicine (all about “balancing the humors”), Studying Latin and or Greek. Oh and logic.

I’m not going to disparage that sort of thing. But universities were very different back then. Most scientific discoveries were by private initiates, and certainly not by institutions. And it was really only in comparatively recent times that mathematics and physical sciences (much less engineering and biological sciences) became a full part of the Academy.

And in terms of inventions. Historically they were done by backyard tinkerers, or workers themselves. Oxford and the University of Paris weren’t funding massive “invention courses” that women were excluded from. Even where things were publicly funded, it was stuff like the cash prize for measuring Longitude.

The truth is that it’s a cop out. Feminists want to disparage men and male achievements. And so they promote this. Strangely enough, the like to promote the idea that it was women who invented agriculture: I wonder what university those women were allowed to attend 10,000+ years ago????

Neither could non-landowning men. The most import thing that divided them was class.
