I’m going to tell you exactly what to do: find this old multi-part PBS documentary called The History of Western Art or somesuch at the library, take the DVD out, watch it (it’s not super exciting).
Thus armed with knowledge, when you want to hit on bougie chicks at art galleries or museums or whatever, you will be able to approach them while they’re looking at a piece and talk about it. With practice you can even bluff your way through complex convos.

Alternative, get every piece so wrong that she starts correcting you

“How about we Van Gogh somewhere with a little more privacy?”
“I’m not sure if you like successful guys, but you should check out my bank account; I’ve got a ton of Monet.”
“I dabble in art myself but don’t worry, I’m not sketchy.”
“If you tell people I forced myself on you I’ll say I’m like these paintings: framed.”
“You’ll love having me on top of you, I’ve got a ton of experience to draw from.”
“I bet I can get you in bed easel-y.”
“Don’t mind me, I’m just your typical pickup artist.”
“We can tell people it was louvre at first sight.”
“My doctor said he could tell I was artistic from a young age, which is strange because I def can’t draw 🤔 “
“Picasso had a blue period; hopefully you’re looking to blow, period?”
Just kidding, don’t say any of these.

i absolutely hated all of these. but the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. this is like a monument to terrible dog shit - and it's a wonder of the world subreddit.

masterful.

Lines are stupid, just make an observation on the art itself - If a girl looks at a painting ask her that she sees or make a comment on what you see "looks interesting i like how [insert your observation], what do you think?" .

i can't imagine looking at the same thing as a woman in a gallery and saying anything other than something about what we're looking at. i couldn't imagine a more effective opening line.

Wait until they are enthralled with a particular piece. Then ask them what about that piece caught their attention?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Preframe the situation by saying something smart about the art, because this does 2 things:
Don't begin with a question-- really important. It puts them on the defensive, like "do I have to answer this question?" you're demanding someone answer you. be like "I know you're not supposed to talk much at the museum, but..." and so by acknowledging that they are more comfortable around you, maybe even amused.
Additionally, you could preframe with a funny comment to show humor and establish a funny mood, or you could preframe with an anticipation-building comment such as "damn I've got a hell of a story about this one" etc

Who lies more....monet or women??
[–]mcfeisty 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
A simple thing, just ask what their favorite piece is.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
nah, a question would put them on the defensive-- as if they HAVE to reply to you like you're demanding information from them.
[–]UnifiedField9000 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
While I agree that there are superior methods than asking her questions (like making observations she can respond to) I think a girl who is so defensive that she’s put off by you asking a simple question probably is never going to convert to a number/date/bang anyway
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
that's fair, but I'm assuming here that the gallery is a minimal-conversation environment-- most galleries I've been to have that social expectation, but I've been to a couple that also are meant to be talkative. But if it's one of those quiet ones, then, then you breaking that norm and speaking to her-- especially asking a question-- is offputting. I'm not anti-question per se, just that's not the right preframe to enter into. Hell we should probably ask this guy what type of galleries he visits

That’s a good point yeah. I wasn’t really thinking about it in terms of her being put off because of the environment of the art gallery itself. I did have success with a girl in an art gallery who became my gf for a while so I guess I’m biased towards it working haha. As long as you’re not too loud I guess it would be fine

Galleries are a fucking goldmine for conversation. Just ask what she thinks this or that painting means. Talk about why all modern artists seem to do abstract (is it just because they don’t have the talent to paint in a classic style?)

Amazing piece of work.. Now I am not alking about the art.. Lmao.
[–]azicre 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The juxtaposition the artist tries to articulate in this piece between contemporary capitalism and your amazing figure really left an impression on me. What do you think?
