Dude. Facial expressions are called "expressions" for a reason. They literally express your mood.

So, in order, to smile without being a creep, you have to be happy, you have to feel joy. You are happy that you are going to a gym. You are happy that sun is shining. You are happy because this is HOW YOU FEEL.

So focus of being happy instead of thinking how to smile.

You just smile and nod or smile and say "hello".

If they lock eyes and reciprocate, great. Take it one step at a time and ask them "how are you?" next time. Then possibly what they are doing at the gym the next time, and then possibly their name since you see them regularly. Or if you happen to converse with them, carry on talking.

If they don't reciprocate, leave it. That's where you'll be flirting with being a creep when you don't respect boundaries or acknowledge that they don't want to talk to you.

It's impossible to be creepy if you give a genuine heartfelt smile, that's all there is to it bro! I smile at random people all the time, the trick is to do it even to people you're not attracted to like that you get used to it

You should match girl's mood. If she feels energetic and happy, you can smile broadly and openly. If she feels closed and indifferent, you can just slightly wink with understanding.

Don’t smile if you are not talking to the woman simple as that.

Smiling from a distance to a random girl you don’t know at all is by itself creepy doesn’t matter how you do it, because it’s more about why on earth are you smiling at them which is what makes them uncomfortable.

If you want to smile at them approach them talk to them and while you are talking keep a playful positive tone combined with a light smile, but if you are just silent, not talking at all or engaging with them, but smiling from afar, that’s creepy.

Your problem is that you want to smile to see if she smiles back as if asking for non verbal permission to approach and that’s not how you do this thing.

You need approach first regardless of any signals, or any smiles. You approach first and then smile when the conversation has started, you don’t smile first and then approach to start the conversation.

This is something you can totally practice in the mirror. Just keep trying until you get an expression that feels pretty cool or hot to you. You should probably tell yourself that you're hot while you're at it; I suspect a slight lack of confidence reading your entire post.

And remember, if you lock eyes with her three times, you'd better get out of your head and just talk to her.

At the gym just don't do it if it's distant, I would only do it if she is passing by you, asking to work in or how many sets it's gonna take, stuff like that.

Better work on that confidence before tho, thinking your smile is awkward is a severe lack of confidence in most cases.

if you feel this is an issue. i would actualy sugest watch movies and find smiles you like, then find a mirror and practise doing thoes smiles likly 1-2 hours a day. do this for a while and it will become a part of you and you wont have to worry any more.
