Let me preface this by saying that I’m an incredibly outgoing and friendly guy. Talking to women is never an issue — I’m funny, witty, and good at flirting. The only thing is, I always meet women via online or by social circle. Approaching is a whole different story. There have been so many times lately when I’ve wanted to approach someone, but end up chickening out. Today, I finally did it.

I was at a local coffee shop editing photos. There was a cute girl there whom I definitely caught looking back at me quite a few times. After much back & forth in my head, I just got up and did it.

I came up to her and asked if I could steal a second of her time. Speaking with ease & confidence, I brought her to my laptop and said “I’ve been trying to get this girl’s skin tones right… but after an hour of editing this photos, I can safely say that colors aren’t even real to me anymore. Be honest - does her skin look natural or am I now colorblind?” She answered and I thanked her.

That was about the extent of our conversation. And didn’t get her number because I sensed that she was uncomfortable with being approached. I’m very good at reading body language, but in hindsight, maybe she did want to be approached and I had just thrown her off guard, I’m unsure. But I digress.

I don’t mind not getting her number, I’m just very proud that I took the opportunity to approach someone. I’d been wanting to for so long, and I finally worked up the courage to move outside of my comfort zone of meeting new people through my friends.

I’m happy to report that although it went nowhere, I feel WAY better than the regret I often feel after not taking an opportunity. Just wanted to share my “success” and maybe get some feedback of what I could’ve done differently/better!
