When I was about 19 or 20, my sister dragged me to a party I did not want to go to.

I basically settled into a corner not knowing anyone there other than my sister, I basically sat alone in a corner. There was a girl I kept looking at across the room for maybe an hour.

As we exchange glances throughout the evening, I felt some connection. Eventually I got the balls up to get up and talk to her. We talked for about an hour or so, when my sister began telling me she wanted to leave.

When I ask this girl for her phone number, she said, I'll take your number, but she was in a relationship right now, but if things changed she would call me.

Okay, I get it, the polite brush off. Almost a year to the day, I received a phone call, and it was her. She was intrigued enough, that she had kept my number.

To say that I was flabbergasted, would be an understatement. We dated for about a year, until she went to a high school reunion and fell in love with her old high School boyfriend.

Yeah we broke up, but we are still friends and talk to each other to this day.

Good for you for the first try. However, as you may have felt, your chances of success were not that high as you have not established any connection. Also, your mutual communication would have been a little troublesome. Next time, be more direct, phrases like "I don't want to make this awkward for you" and "I was wondering" are not necessary and present you as uncertain and scared male. Keep going.

I’ve asked out many cashiers, cold open, no rapport build whatsoever. I prob have a 5% success rate. I am immune to rejection, but I don’t like an audience.

I cannot believe people are praising OP for this. This is not impressive at all.

First, you SHOULD NOT BE ASKING OUT PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING UNLESS THEY SHOW STRONG INTEREST IN YOU. They are literally getting paid to talk to you. Guys ask women who are working out because they are too scared to actually cold approach strangers that might turn them down.

Second, you did it completely wrong. You did not build any rapport, you did not give her a compliment, etc. You basically gave her no reason to say yes to you.

I know a lot of guys here would say "at least its better than nothing." Actually, I don't think it's better than nothing. I think this is weak and shows a complete lack of confidence and courage.
