I had a casual relationship last 3 years but there was honesty involved. We both discussed neither of us wanted more and we enjoyed what we had.
[–]sikes999 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've had a few of these. It does honestly require setting the frame / the boundaries upfront early on. And always checking in from time to time in between the adventure.
Although with that being said. I dont think I've ever had a casual relationship end "well" where one of both parties wernt a little 😟.
I've had on going flings, Ie. I'm in a country for a few weeks and that's like a casual relationship at warp speed but it has a clear expiry date. And thus, because of that, and the logistics of the plane taking me away - both parties leave ☺️ with memories.

In my situation, we ultimately got bored with each other.

What's the difference with being fuck buddies?
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Dates
[–]KaleidoscopeGlass153 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Basically it's like an open relationship? Or you can't sleep around?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
We both saw other people when we wanted. We hung around together with our friends sometimes.
[–]KaleidoscopeGlass153 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So you were in an open relationship
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
We were very random with our communication and when we got together. I never thought about this as a relationship. There wasn't deep communication, consistency or the support I would expect in a relationship.
[–]KaleidoscopeGlass153 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Maybe i have a distorted idea of what open relationships are, but the way you described it sounds exactly like what being in one would feel like. How could you be into one? I mean what's it like being in relationship like that? i bet at some point feelings were involved and that mustn't be the best for mental health.
[–]sikes999 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Personal boundaries is one as well. However you define those and whatever rules you lay. You can set your own rules just as the other person can set theirs
[–]iambabyshark 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A year is a pretty big deal for a relationship so I'd end it before then. To be blunt, if you can't see a legitimate future with a girl after three months of dating you should end it
This is a good response.
Also. You should end it for yourself too, not just for her. Just because something is good doesn't mean it's good for you / them.
Offt.

Ive averaged about 4-6 months with variations in the mix. I'm kind of a dick tho. If girl starts any type of emotional neediness or excessive gf behavior I dip... made the mistake a couple times in beginning of trying to keep flings going when grl was getting attached. Never ends well.
[–]Deluxe07 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I’ve had 3 flings in the space of 2 months (at the same time, they didn’t know about each other) and I didn’t go through this at all. All 3 girls eventually moved on from me (their decision not mine). What does this say about me? Only slept with one of them btw
[–]lateahalligator 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Hard to know. One worrying thing is that you're thinking you're deficient becuz they moved on. We never know why ppl move on but 90% of the time it has something to do with them and their life. If you want to continue flings you will need to be fine with this happening. From the brief description sounds like maybe you could have gotten a little attached. Did u want more? Just speculating. I too have had flings move on as well. I am pretty cold. I really enjoy my freedom so I display very little emotion. I feel that it has kept some intrigued but others get frustrated or bored and move on. Also, when I have multiple situations I dont tell the other girls specifics but i make it clear from the jump I do not want monogamy. I am very candid and blunt. It has prolly stopped me from getting with certain girls but I'd rather have everything on the table to avoid drama(drama still happens sometimes tho). I would reflect a little. Do u want a relationship? In our culture the stereotypical "dude" wants no strings attached sex, but I have many friends who do it and realize they aren't built for it. No shame if it's the case. Prolly better for mental health and your future. Also, not to get specific but do u feel confident in your bedroom skills? Could this be an issue. Did you suffocate the girls with texts and calls? If it's stated as a casual relationship ive found girls get annoyed if the guy constantly texts/calls. It goes both ways. And it might complicate things but if you're still frens with any of the girls ask them why they moved on? Get some Intel if possible and look for commonalities. The best "game" I've learned in my seduction life has come from honest and sincere communication with women.
[–]Deluxe07 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nope, have not acted needy at all, was always respectful to them when they canceled plans and did not over text, I used bad words in my previous comment, by “moved on” I mean they started canceling on me. 2 of them did it 2 weeks in a row and the other one canceled on me today. I’m guessing it’s over because if a girl is coming up with excuses not to see you then that means she has another guy that she’s giving preference to and I’m the backup. My bedroom skills are about 7/10 I would say, def higher than her, she didn’t seem that experienced when we first started having sex.
What worries me is that not even one of them has hit me with the “what are we?” talk. Makes me think I’m not that desirable
[–]lateahalligator 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Gotya. Well, u were desirable enought to get laid and hookup. Getting past that hill seems to be an issue fo a lot of guys.Sounds like there is something that could be fine tuned after the initial hookup for you. But again you cud have caught 3 girls that are in weird places in their lives or scared or whatever. Sometimes ya never know. And sometimes girls find a guy they like better than you. Happens to me and everybody. Gotta be ok with that. Lastly, I've had girls cxl and make excuses and then 3 weeks, or 2 months later get that midnight "wya" text. Let it play out, be cool, and work on some new possibilities if that's what ya want.

You only had two flings and one potential FWB your not doing bad. A fling is a girl you date but never make it to sex. A FWB or potential FWB is someone you had sex with. You're overthinking this, usual to find a sexually/personality compatible FWB it takes 3 - 4 or so girls you hooked up with. So don't even count fling's also don't spend more than 4 dates on a girl (there are exceptions, so I am not saying all) because most likely by the 4th date they decided they want to have sex with you or not aka friend zoned. Usually by the fourth date, if we did not have sex, I tell them it's not working out and friend zone them. So either way I expand my network or get a potential FWB, a win win. One last thing, you might be a 7/10 in the bedroom, but you also have to take in compatibility, like I said up above. We all like different things sexually, some girls are good in bed, but I am just not compatible sexually like that so I move on to the next girl. Chicks do the same thing so don't think bedroom skills will be the end factor. Not to say they are useless, you need them in the first place to keep the girls around and coming for more.

I’ve had them last years
I think we all have our own ideas and boundaries of what an open relationship is. I understand where you're at on this. I never thought I was in a relationship with someone when we were so consistently inconsistent. You've given something to think about.
[–]WheelIntelligent1354 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How long do you want to? Be clear about your intentions a few weeks into dating her, after that it's up to her.
[–]tahiro86j 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It takes about three months for you to be fully aware that you are now a citizen of the city you have moved to three months earlier.
Got my point?
I typically have a span of 4-5 months. However I've been able to extend that up to almost 12 months on average now with multiple people by telling the truth and being honest that I am someone for now, not forever. And with very clear boundaries.
The truth is scary, especially once the fun has just started. but it does set you free.
Simon Sinek says that a relationship cannot happen in one day or in seven days. He also says that there’s something wrong with the relationship if a couple is not determined to stay together after seven years together.
In other words, it takes longer than seven days and less than seven years to form a deep meaningful relationship.
Given that we are talking about casual relationship here, I think it’s also fair to say that time isn’t so much a factor as long as you know the above rules and you have enough time to spare (which you often don’t because you get older anyway) and you can allow the relationship to transform from casual to serious. Otherwise, I would imagine that less than half a year in net together would signal a couple that they are not serious about each other.

its 1 week, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, after that its a long term relationship and will probably last for more years
