You improve status by putting yourself into the position of status.

Instead of joining clubs, organise your own.

Instead of going to parties, make your own.

Instead of going to gigs, book bands and bars and promote your own.

Instead of reading books, write and publish books.

Instead of watching youtube videos, create your own.

Instead of going to meetups on meetup.com organise your own.

as well as learning new skills, set up classes to teach people what you already know

Etc.

Edit. Status comes from the value you can offer others.

Gyms are a huge thing to get acclimated. I work out in a couple gyms just to see different people and get a change of scenery. While going there to get shredded, you definitely notice and other people notice that you go. Talk with guys and girls. And you usually can talk about anything really, and find the true character of a person there. No alcohol, and people are truly genuine.

Approach a group of dudes, yes dudes. Make yourself known there and join them like a pack of wolves. Be consistent with them and they wouldn't even realize that you decided to join them by just walking over to them and talking, dudes are that easy. There on, a pack of dudes are always known around and then start approaching women on the campus but if you aren't in a co-ed then no stress. Keep doing that with different people, dudes don't always get jealous of you hopping from one train to the other. Just keep them as friends you'd like to meet and not the brothers you'd fight for. Because that's completely special and for that, you need enough experience and a group that resonates with your values. Look for a group that posts about going out more often. You will start slow/small but will eventually get there.

Say hi to everybody. Make jokes. Smile. Learn to start conversations with people. Regardless of profile. Old, young, male, female. Taxi drivers, workers, store clerks. Make a ton of brief connections every day. Have a positive aura or presence.
