Been seeing a lot of posts around Reddit lately from guys who don't understand what's wrong with being a Nice Guy. Not a NiceGuy™, but rather a guy who's just a very nice guy. This is a little thought experiment I did a while back, and these posts I've been seeing lately reminded me of it. I'm using pizza as an analogy here because pretty much everybody likes pizza, or has eaten it at some point in their life.
Nice Guys are like Cheese Pizza
So what's wrong with cheese pizza you ask? Well, nothing really per se. Cheese pizza pretty much forms the foundation of every single pizza: bread, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Everybody who enjoys eating pizza doesn't really mind eating it. Generally speaking whenever there's a large gathering or event and pizza is ordered, it's guaranteed that you'll find a cheese pizza and it's generally the go to if the other pizzas you can't or don't want to eat slices of the other pizzas for whatever reason.
However, if you ask anybody what their favourite kind of pizza is very rarely will you hear cheese pizza is their number one choice, unless they're a kid or some sort of pizza purist. More likely, it'll be some combination of one or more custom toppings or some specific type (i.e. Hawaiian, Meat Lover's, Deluxe, etc.).
At the same time if you ask people whether pineapples belong on pizza, you'll find it's a very polarizing topic. People either love it or hate it. Ditto for pretty much any topping or combination of toppings. The topic of arguing over which pizza toppings are the best and worst are probably one of the greatest conversation starters out there, and it can lead to some very interesting debates that can last for hours on end.
When you see how many different combinations of toppings there are for pizza that can change the flavour and the entire experience of eating pizza, plain-old cheese pizza just seems a little lacking. Going back to the large event or gathering, the cheese pizza is probably going to be the last one that gets eaten in its entirety, and even then people only go at it if there's nothing they like, or there are no slices left of the other pizzas.
See where I'm going with this?
There's nothing wrong with being nice per-se, it's just that it's literally the bare-minimum when it comes to social interaction. Having nothing else going for you makes you kind of boring. It might win you some hearts, but more likely than not your options are going to be limited to women who are settling because they can't get anything better.
Hope you enjoyed the post, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
