I’ve always had success at just commenting on the environment (the drink she/I have, the crowd, clothing, the music, random decor, etc.) I just try to start a innocent and friendly conversation. My friend and I used to practice by pointing stuff out to each other so the other person would have to just riff. Like I’d point at a lamp and my buddy would have to just go “that’s an odd lamp, really wide at the botto, looks like a Russian nesting doll, do you think maybe there’s a series of smaller lamps inside it?” Etc. Then introduction, some questions, if the conversation flows great, if not, I politely disengage and head back to my friends. Pretty non threatening way of engaging and leaves room to renengsge throughout an evening. But this is my instinctual method. I’m sure there are better ways to go about it.. definitely harder in the light of day and when on your own though.

Delivering matters the most. If you're also original, that's much better.

Dont need to be witty and or original, it needs to be relevant and memorable... For example, if i see an uptight looking lady with a bitch resting face, i will just say to her "how often do guys approach you cause that bitch resting face you got no matter how sexy you look, is a deadly"... Point of the opener is to open a discussion about her, and im showing im not focused on her physically but rather wanna know her..
