I do feel kind of stuck, like I'm looking for one more thing before I 'get out there'. Mostly I stick with my group of 5-8 guys, so I don't meet many new girls (smallish school too) and don't want to fuck up.

Start putting into practice what you know. It's the little steps you take that will eventually pay off. I started by watching videos, reading and understanding, I took 6 months before I tried some techniques I learned on a date. That was where I started to make sense of the material.

The more you do, the better you learn. The theory has to be balanced with the application, otherwise you would have no context to what you are studying.

The main thing I'm wondering, is what things should I keep in mind being my age, and in high school if it applies, and how to 'get started'?

A good place to start would be saying "Hi" and smiling at people you meet, and at the same time work on your identity, values and self-confidence.

Knowing who you are, what your values are and what you value makes it easier for you to qualify the people you meet. Note I said "people", not "girls" or "chicks". Ultimately, PUA to me is about being social with everyone from people in your school/office to people you meet on the street regardless of race, background or gender.

Also when I try to make conversation, it seems like the other person never has a lot to say, and it doesn't last long (with people I don't know well). Any tips on that?

It's up to you to lead the conversation, and put the other person at ease at the same time. If it's just a quick conversation, you really don't expect it to go anywhere if she doesn't "hook".

If there's an opportunity to spend some time with your target, I have found that it helps if you just say "Mind if I join you?" right as you pull out a chair and sit down next to her. Most of the time, people are more comfortable since they know what you want. Other times, I'm just glad they didn't waste my time and told me "not interested" straight off.

There are others who could probably help you out here more than me, as I tend to do more gaming in my social circles and have very few successes with cold approaching comparatively.

The best thing you can do for yourself is start taking some risks (tempered with a little risk analysis) i.e. getting out of your sausagey friend group. Making friends with women can be one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Note: this is not in lieu of working on them to get a girlfriend or whatever, but it is a matter of enriching your life and making it better. Platonic girlfriends will give you more insight into the female mind and more access to unattached girls looking to score. Make a few girl friends, then start making girlfriends. DO NOT fall in love with your platonic girl friends. That is a path to misery.

Some risk-taking can be really beneficial and healthy i.e. rock-climbing, travel, investment etc. because they add spice to your life and make you a more interesting (and therefore attractive) man. Avoid the self-destructive shit like drugs and unprotected sex.

There is always an exception to the rule.

Let me tell you what no one ever told me about high school girls when I was that age: their confidence is paper thin. Paper. If you have any sense of self and presence of "I know what I'm doing", you are fucking invincible and anything they can possibly do just bounces off you. Everyone in high school is drowning and will cling to anyone who even seems to be able to swim.

Don't waste too much time on pua in high school, the girls are too fragile for you to need to research how to react to them.

Just get out there, talk to girls, and look for excuses to get them (1) spending time outside of school with you and then (2) spending time alone with you.

Get your diploma first. Celebrate your 18th birthday. Once you've done those two things, come back.

ETA: The reason I make this advice is that, well, frankly, giving this kid pick-up advice could be considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor where you are.

When your in class, move around, don't sit in the same place and talk to those your sitting with. You've got your class in common as something to start talking about. If possible, ask the person beside you for help with something, and get them to reteach you whatever your teacher has recently covered.

Ask them about them, use what they say to keep it going, if its not that interesting keep trying, they may be shy or just not forthcoming.

Small schools can make it hard to find someone, cause gossip travels so fast. Just keep trying.
