Use them sparingly for optimum results. I tend to put a smiley face in if I need to clarify something was a joke or if I want to imply something sexual that might not be crystal clear.

i dont know about bitches but i know when i see a male using smiley faces i cringe. i'd say for every 5 messages, use a smiley face in about none or less of them.

unless it's really your thing or something. when i absolutely need to set tone with an emoticon its always a winky face.

some do, some don't.

NLP-wise it's like that: you can mirror her speech. If she uses smileys a lot, you might work them in sometimes. same with words she uses. but don't just straight up copy her speech. that looks like mockery. let it flow in your conversation naturally while maintaining your own style.

I think many of us use smileyfaces in online-communication. there are certain rules, when they are appropriate...to tone down something that might sound harsh otherwise or to show irony when what you said is ambiguous .
