If you're in a rush to find something to say you're gonna be in a rush to say it. So chill. Slow down. You're not in any hurry. I find the best conversation is all about them. Ask open ended questions and let them do the talking. It's also a good idea to try and stop falling back onto "um"s and "errr"s too often. One of my pet hates is when I'm talking to someone and they fill a sentence with more "like"s and "um"s than actual story. Don't be that guy.

Brain freeze occurs because your adrenaline spikes. In essence, you get stressed out and your conscious brain shuts off.

The solution is to lower your stress response through acclimatization.

When you're in the right headspace, making conversation isn't difficult.

Don't "think" about what to say. Listen, listen, listen. If you've listened (not just heard) what a girl has said, you can naturally continue the conversation by asking questions and letting her talk.

One thing that I've noticed is that in all my 'good' conversations, I am directing it a lot more than usual. I'm the one choosing topics, expanding on certain ones, poking fun at her, etc.

This usually comes naturally from whatever state I'm in. So, I've come to the conlusion that knowing what to say is more a matter of state than anything else. Recall a time when you've had that 'conversational flow' going on, and try to recreate that type of state.

Well let me answer this with what happened to me this weekend. I was sitting with some friends in a bar and a female friend of theirs approached whom i didn't know. I immediately began conversation and kino. This went on for about 5 minutes until i felt like i had nothing more to say. I asked her if she wanted shots to which she replied yes. We had our shots joked around a bit escalated kino and then sat back down. The key thing i did after sitting down the second time is i judged her response to me. When we sat back down i asked standard non flirty questions to get to know her a bit, after i asked about 3 questions like what school she goes to, what music she likes, etc. when i got bored i stopped talking and looked into her eyes for afew seconds and asked her "so should i ask you more boring questions or just kiss you". Twas a good night

You are just thinking way to much man. Find a conversation that you are both interested in and you will not run into this issue. Sounds like you are almost going off a checklist.
