Dealing with an asshole?

The problem with assholes is that they can do it to some people. I can only guess that you let this happen to you and never drew a line. So the only way to make him stop, is either to simply ignore him, or draw the line for him.

In my teen years i have dealt with many of those people who thought they could pick on me. If it was only words, i did something similar to agree and amplify, which worked extremely well. I also started to find it funny when someone started such "low quality" behavior, and it got so far that i was sincerely laughing at them for trying. the reaction was mostly anger, and they tried harder, with the effect on me that i was laughing even harder. Soon they stopped because it didn't give them the expected satisfaction.

When it came to physical threats, i always stood my ground and let them try, needless to say they didn't have the balls to do anything, because i didn't present myself as a victim rather than a "dangerous to fuck with" type of guy.

Nowadays whenever someone tries to disrespect me i choose one of two ways: simply ignore and turn my back, or if its someone "important" i smile, then i ask the person in front of everyone loud and clear, so everybody can hear it: "why do you feel the need to disrespect me only to elevate your own value? Don't you feel ashamed of that behavior?"

Believe me, this hurts hard and hits bullseye, pretty much because the other person will feel ashamed for such behavior, and subconsciously feel like a little child again and dad is giving him a lecture.

I agree that this is a very risky way of doing it, but i have never regretted it. Also it worked for me every single time i had to do it.

The ruder he gets, the more polite and nice you get. If this is happening in social situations, everybody can see who is an asshole and who isn't. But don't get caught up in his game or you become an asshole too. There's a concept called AMOG Destroyers that often use this tactic, but it can be tricky to use.

First time, shrug it off.

Second time, ask "who peed in your cereal this morning?"

Third time, call the bartender and say "can we get this guy a drink? he's having a really bad day."

Don't get shaken, don't fight back. Just embarrass him by subtly drawing attention to how inappropriate and rude he's acting.

"You know that sounded like kind of a dick comment, but I know you wouldn't try to be confrontational with me, so how about you explain how that wasn't a douchey thing to say?"

I say call him out on his actions especially, if others feel the same way about him
