I'm recently single and started to browse seddit to get "back in the game". This inspired me to go out there and try to interact with some girls. There is this one experience that happened today and it really felt like being hit in the teeth by a baseball bat. Here's what happened:

I see this HB8 waiting for the subway, she's playing on her Ipod and I decide to approach her:

me: "Excuse me".

HB8: (just stares).

me : "Your bag ... it's a pretty nice bag !"

HB8: "hum what bag?" (I can see on her face that she's REALLY on the defensive but i keep going)

me: "The bag you're carrying" (point her bag)

At this point im smiling but I must have looked nervous (since I was) and I didnt really think about it and just raised my hand to point her bag. She then jumps back from me and:

HB8: "what the hell?"

me: "excuse me, I just wanted to talk to you"

HB8: "what the fuck is wrong with you ? approaching me about my bag?"

me: "nevermind excuse me."

And I just left. I couldnt take it anymore. I understand that some girls can have a bad day and that some others will prefer drinking molten hot steel than talking to me but I thought this reaction was really over the top. I couldnt respond to her but I dont feel like I should let myself be treated like I tried to grab her bag and run.

So my question to you is: How do you politely respond in a situation like that ? How do you keep your cool and walk out of there like a man without insulting the person who's reacting like that ?
