So me and my roommate who is a female just started having the discussion. How many days before a text?

I've never been one for calling a girl back to ask her out. If a girl gives me a her number, i usually wait 3 days before texting her to ask her out. I never call because it seems too formal or whatever so i send a causal text.

My roommate believes that you should text the very next day to show you are interested. I believe that texting the very next day or even 2 days later is 'too desperate'. So i wait 3 days before texting to ask her out.

Specifically, i met an amazing girl at a club sat night. We really hit it off. I was thinking of sending her a text on Tuesday night, but my roommate told me to do it tonight (Monday).

So Seddit, what are your opinions? is it better to send a random off-topic text and follow up with another asking her out?
