I agree. The info I've read is that taking megadoses of water soluble vitamins means you just excrete the excess in your urine. One joker said "megadoses of vitamins means you have very expensive piss." Another problem is chewable C (very popular) which tends to erode your tooth enamel.

Right now, on the advice of my doctor, I'm taking a multivitamin with 90IU of C, plus a separate 1000 units of D3 daily, and he's monitoring my blood tests closely. He diagnosed me with D deficiency and put me on 8 weeks of weekly 50,000IU D2 pills, that scared the crap out of me. Megadoses of fat soluble vitamins can build up and poison you.

One cold remedy I will warn people against is zinc. Those zinc tablets are dangerous. I've heard of zinc tabs causing people to lose their sense of smell and taste. It can also aggravate tinnitus (a big problem for me). These are known side effects. Avoid.

Now the big issue is if I can just quit smoking again. I always have respiratory problems all winter unless I quit. But even last year when I was not smoking, I still got Swine Flu, I ended up in the emergency room with extreme dehydration, they told me that's how most of the Swine Flu victims died. The problem in this town is the high density of students living in close quarters in dormitories. Colds and flu become epidemics overnight. And now I'm out sarging in bars full of stupid kids who don't have the courtesy to stay home when they're sick.
