Another fascinating one from the OKCupid blog. Interesting how it flies in the face of the "universal beauty" theory a lot of folks in the community propose, but I think it actually fits very well with the different definition of the 1-10 scale we use (basically focusing on approachability).

Isn't it just the defining characteristics they have? A woman who looks pretty normal (but not too bad) isn't going to elicit much excitement from fetishists and guys like that, so nobody rates her too high or too low. A girl with a tattoo on her neck who otherwise looks exactly the same will have more guys loving the tattoo, more guys hating it, and generally get more attention (mostly from the guys loving it). A girl with a seductive smile will have more horndogs loving it and contacting her, while other guys think it's contrived and rate it lower, and less people end up in the middle. That's like, logic.
