What, are you going to karaoke night at the local bar? I know one song that is on every karaoke machine in the world, and you should never, ever sing it: My Way.

I'll show you a karaoke song I've been practicing for years, it's kind of difficult, and I'll never find it on a karaoke machine outside Japan. But if you understand the lyrics, it is nostalgic and sad yet wistful. And the singer is so hot, especially when she strips down to her miniskirt halfway through. And oh what a voice. So here is my karaoke song, Shinobu no wataritori.

But in a pinch, I'll just do the other song that's in every karaoke machine in the world, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction."

I know I am a little late to this thread, but I have a perfect one that I use. I am actually a pretty good singer, but my greatest success was Twist & Shout by the Beatles. I am 21, it was in a bar with a group of girls, and they ate it like catnip. They weren't even the classic rock types and I could still see in their eyes that it worked. They even said "Wow you actually know how to sing". Other people in the bar even got up and danced.

That being said, its a pretty easy song to sing. I even smoke cigarettes and it helped with Lennon's raspyness. Fun fact... he sounds so raspy because they recorded that song onto its album at the end of an all day recording session during which he kept smoking cigarettes. So a little voice crackling fits the song, and it makes people want to dance. It even comes with a brief story about classic rock if that fits your style as a DHV.

Anyway, it took three minutes to ingratiate myself with this new social group of at least 5 hot girls. It works beautifully. But don't tell anyone... this can be our secret.

And yes... you should definitely have at least one great song in your repertoire because guys with good voices are hot and fun to go to karaoke with. Fun Fact... Karaoke in its original Japanese means "empty orchestra"... isn't that hauntingly beautiful?

Quick end note... other awesome karaoke songs according to me.

I have done a few Rolling Stones songs to good effect
I sang a Killers song once because a girl picked it, it was alright. Know your audience!!
I have done the cliche's (Journey/Bohemian/Zeppelin) They are not great choices unless you have a strong voice and wide range. I have heard bohemian rhapsody maybe 15 times in bars in my life. Probably 14 people butchered it and 1 did alright (bc he had great range). People have heard these so many times that you need to be amazing if you want anyone to give you a high5)

If you have limited range, sing a punk song like a popular Green Day song that everyone likes (from before they went bad). I am a little biased, I am the classic rock/punk/ska type. But its been working great so far.

Last thing. My worst failure was a duet from Grease. The "tell me more, tell me more" song. It is impossible. I couldn't hit the notes and it went badly. Luckily, neither could the girl i was with. ANyway. Good luck.

For Karaoke: Bon Jovi. "Livin' on a Prayer" "Wanted, Dead or Alive" No real range needed for either. If you wanna get cute Prince's "Kiss" and "Purple Rain" work too. Those take a bit of practice and a willingness to go falsetto and act it like a total fruit cake... but it's fun!

If you don't have a good singing voice, do a falsetto fake singing voice to a song that requires a high voice anyways (Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Believing, etc.) That way it shows you don't take yourself so seriously.

in addition to this, play guitar. it makes the song sound more harmonized. favorite song to play is "is this love" by bob marley. an added plus of learning some guitar chords, strong fingers. added plus of strong fingers...well, you can use your imagination

"Grow old with you" from the Wedding Singer, "I don't want to miss a thing" Aerosmith, "Sweet Child O' Mine" GNR (don't try to sound like Axle), "Can't smile without you" Barry Manilow, "Cupids Chokehold" Gym Class Heroes, ANYTHING JASON MRAZ & BRUNO MARS!!, some Queen & Journey.. maybe a "Wonderwall" Oasis.. anything with popular with lovey lyrics, really.
