Just because they made an accidental deposit doesn't mean you have a right to the money. Your best bet is to not say anything, wait 90 days and then you're likely in the clear. My second recommendation is get a different job and find some legal counsel to make sure your employer is found responsible for the terrible work conditions. Under no circumstance is that money yours though.

If they ask about it give it back, if they don’t then don’t say anything. It’s their obligation to get the amount of money they pay you right, you technically have no obligation to check your bank account. Act as if you never even noticed

Here's the truth. They suck but you want an excuse to steal money that isn't yours. Legally it's not yours and it doesn't matter how shitty they were to you. You could have quit anytime.

OK. Hang on here before you do something that's going to cost you a lot of money, and possibly, jail time. First off, the only thing you can do is not spend a dime and report it to the employer and bank ASAP.

That money isn't yours. Whatever it is, a bank error, an error on your employers part or something else, eventually someone is going come back to you about it. The bank can reverse the transaction AND file a police report. Once the police show up, they are going to start asking the usual questions. Did you notice the error? Why didn't you contact the bank? Why did you spend the money? There is no magic deadline at 90 days where you get to keep the money. There are cases that go back 5 or 10 years where people are still responsible for the money.

Do a google search for bank error and you'll find story after story of people who kept the money and then had to pay it back and spend time (up to 10 years) in prison for keeping the money.

I get it. You've mad at your employer and you really, really want to keep that money. Don't. It's not yours. It's a crime to use that money and you will get caught. There is not scenario here where that money is yours unless you speak with the employer and they tell you to keep it.

Do not under any conditions threaten the employer about the abuse of the workplace. If that's an issue, get a lawyer and sue then for that but that's entirely separate from this error. Don't mix up the two if you value your freedom.

You're free to do what you like but, mark my words, if you use that money you will regret it the rest of your life.

HR violations. Escalate up the food chain about all the 'messed up stuff.' Talk to the BBB. Polish your resume, get back to work. Don't expect glowing referrals from them. Lie, say you left because they were holding you back. Lie, say you liked working there but you were done growing and needed a change. Lie, say the pay was shit and the treatment was shit and you wouldn't tolerate that from anyone ever.

Never mention you took abuse when applying at new jobs, makes you look like a sucker. Don't even dream about keeping that fucking money it will come back to bite you.

Stop rationalizing. regardless the right thing to do would be to give the money back, if you're not then make sure that you have another job lined up for when they eventually fire you. If the job sucks then keep the money quit and find another job

I was once overpaid a job. was after I left I got several extra paychecks amounting to about $6000. They never said anything. That was about 4 years ago now
