Negging?

As, admittedly, something of an outsider to PUA, one of its great strengths is the ability to take a sort of general concept of human interaction (like "flirting") and break it down into its component parts (like negging). Guys like turning something into discrete elements. They're easier to get your head around. It turns everything into Lego, and it makes it much easier for having a sort of SOP both to fall back to and to riff off of.

There's also something of a rhetorical value to expressing the idea as negging to encourage guys to reassess themselves and their mindset.

And yeah, it gets misunderstood, somewhere between how people aren't accustomed to putting it in that way, combined with how the people who are spectacularly bad at it are the ones who get the most noticed.

I agree with you. You're not missing anything - negging was a term created by nerds who didn't know that they were teasing hahahaha.. however, those nerds got laid!

With teasing the purpose is fun. The negging the purpose is to appear like you're teasing while your actual purpose is to make them feel a little bit more insecure in order to get inside their head/pants.

Negging was always misunderstood, since critics of pickup seized on it and deliberately distorted the meaning. Negging was never intended to be an insult. It was intended to be a disqualifier. The originator of the negging concept, Mystery, called it "a snub." It is a signal that you are not chasing after her, that she has to chase you, and she has show she is good enough for you. A neg is a qualifier. The girl is failing to meet your high expectations. It’s not an insult, just a judgment call on your part. You’re not even trying to make her feel bad. (so it seems) Its the same as if you pulled out a tissue and blew your nose. There is nothing insulting about blowing your nose. You haven’t rejected her. But at the same time, she will sincerely believe that you aren’t trying to impress her. This creates curiosity and makes you a challenge.
