I was told that once.

My response was something like "wow thank you! A girl hasn't told me I am too nice in a long time!"

Basically it was thanking them for the complement, which throws them off, but also shows that you interact with many other girls and many of them think you are not "too nice." Furthermore, she might even think that she is experiencing a different side of you, AKA she is special/different than the other girls.

Hmmmm. Why did you do that? How did you phrase the question?

In any case, it's rare for many girls to be insightful enough to offer helpful feedback, as you've discovered here. I'll elaborate more below.

How were you being cocky? How were you challenging them? (Especially with their BFs there.

Why do YOU think they would have said you're too nice. I wasn't there. None of us at Seddit were.

How would you respond to this?

First off, I wouldn't have asked two girls I just met to critique me. They hadn't known you very long and you didn't know them well enough to know if they truly possess the faculties that could truly grant them valuable insight. Clearly not, if you're having to talk to us to decode their feedback.

Secondly, they had BFs.... so you were acting chummy, I assume: you had switched gears on them. If you had decided to approach them from a friendship point of view, of COURSE your vibe is going to be more "nice-guy"-ish. That doesn't mean anything.

How would you change or reply?

The last time a girl called me a nice guy, I disregarded it. I had actually friend-zoned this girl because I wasn't interested in her, so her calling me that was kind of like a sour grapes thing. And a shit test. So it didn't matter to me.

I haven't had a girl I was actually interested in call me a "nice guy" in quite some time. Years. If your intent is usually expressed in a clear way, you have nothing to worry about.

How can I see like less of a nice guy? Would appreciate any input, thanks.

You can't control what others think. I'd stop worrying about it. Just concern yourself with whether you're walking the path. And cut yourself some slack: quit worrying about feedback given to you from some girl you just met.

That is a polite way of saying you are boring. Chin up its one set. You might not of even did anything wrong. Girls don't live in a vacuum they have various events happening in their lives not conducive to being picked up.

You were probably smiling too much. Being too agreeable with them. Probably thought everything they said was "oh cool." Your voice tone was probably inflecting, seeking value. You probably didn't look them in the eyes. They probably had no idea you were interested in fucking them until you asked for their numbers.

If I got it in response to a specific question I would just ask what they meant.

Nice is way too broad a term for a critique.
