So I'm really confused. Here's a background on my friend: He's in an LTR, He's in shape and I know girls find him attractive but he does so many things that should counter that. He keeps his hair messy, never shaves (and his facial hair doesn't grow out really nice), when he goes to classes he wears sweatpants, boots, and whatever jacket he grabs if it's cold out (and huge mittens of all things). He spends little to no time on self improvement, like he forgets to do simple hygienic stuff like brushing his teeth/flossing, I've seen him go 3 days straight wearing the same pair of underwear. He gets average grades and plays video games all day.

But here's what I don't understand: He'll go to class, say nothing the entire period, he'll just sit there taking notes or playing on his phone or whatever, but he'll get approached by girls out of the blue. On a few occasions (very attractive) girls have approached him after class, given him their number (they never had interacted before that) and asked if he wanted to study or something. On more occasions, girls in his class will find him on FB, and message him, being extremely flirty and in some cases very sexual. He's shown me the messages, he initiates none of this. Before his LTR, sometimes he would approach girls, sometimes they would approach him, and some would message him out of nowhere, and he would f-close 2-3 nights a week with what seemed like no effort.

I've had classes with him, I hang out with him during the day around campus, and he initiates nothing, he has no interest in cheating on his gf, he may check out hot girls sometimes but he never approaches them. They come to him. How does this happen? As someone who frequents this subreddit and spends what feels like all of my energy improving myself and practicing everything I learn on here, how does somebody get that kind of attention?
