This isn't exactly PUA per say, but I believe it's part of being a high-quality man. One who is confident, self-affirmed, self-validated, outcome-independent, and reliable. As we know, inner game is the most important part.
So I want to bring up Self Talk (self-affirmation, etc). Self-affirmation takes many forms, and enables a positive, goal-oriented self-image.
- Power posing (posture)
- Repeating encouraging words to yourself
- Self pep-talks
My favorites, which you may not have thought of as self-talk are:
- Reviewing your goals before entering stressful situations
- visualizing success in foreseeable stressful situations
- Practicing speaking to a mirror
David K. Sherman of the University of California and Geoffrey L. Cohen at Yale University argue that the tenants of self-affirmation theory are:
People are motivated to protect the perceived integrity and worth of self.
Motivations to protect self-integrity can result in defensive responses.
The self-system is flexible.
People can be affirmed by engaging in activities that remind them of “who they are” (and doing so reduces the implications for self-integrity of threatening events).
(emphasis mine. copypasta)
For example, it has been shown that people who regularly repeat self-affirmations and visualize success perform better in a wide variety of tasks. start here
There's an excellent TEDx talk here and this book delves a little into why practicing and preparing for success leads to success.
So, I'm sharing the idea of a mantra, which may help others visualize and prepare for success in everything not just approaching women. You can repeat every day (or before a stressful situation) something that means a great deal to you. For example, I often go with:
I have worked to be who I am today. Tomorrow I will have improved.
I'd love to hear any thoughts. Apologies if this isn't the typical FR or question post.
