Last night I was given the" I am a bad parent" shit test. Our kid did something awesome at school . She had several opportunities to tell me about it once I got home from work. I ended up learning about it from seeing her facebook post and how proud she was of him for what he had done .

I approached her and asked why I learned about it through Facebook (it was a big deal, she should have told me in person) and I got several excuses such as "you came home late" or "it just didn't occur to her to say anything until the moment I thought about posting it to Facebook".

She asked me if I was mad.

I said "no but I am disappointed". I made sure to use that word. She actually visually appeared more stunned and kinda hurt that I said that to her which I'm fine with because it was the truth.

About 10 minutes later after I had gone downstairs she said " I am a bad mom". I told her I never said she was a bad mom. she again repeated and again I said I never said that.

She took the shit test even further and said she was going to sleep on the couch because she was a bad mom.

I reiterated the word "disappointed" earlier in the evening. I told her I felt I needed an apology. she hesitated at first, but eventually said "I apologize, I am sorry". So I never got angry at all and I called her out on her bullshit. I made her realize her mistake and I got her to apologize, and she voluntarily slept on the couch.

She's not a bad mom and I never asked her to sleep on the couch but she's an adult she can make her decisions because I've had to sleep in our guest room and on the couch many times for worse offenses, and rarely did she every come to "bring me back to bed".

Again I told her I never said that nor did I ask her to sleep on the couch but I never stopped her and I never told her "no please don't sleep on the couch" like she was probably wanting. I got the impression she kept waiting for me to stop her and I never did.

Did I handle this shit test well?

Getting downvotes, so I assume that means people disagree with how I handled myself. Not really sure what I did or said wrong. I was calm, kept a calm demeanor, stated my issue, let her know I was disappointed, and she apologized.
