Tips on going to the bar alone?

I hear ya. I also moved into a new city. I often go to my home town, but it's hard when it comes to doing stuff by yourself at the beginning. Some pro tips:

1) I go out when I feel like it. Have a couple of drinks and have fun.

2) I talk to people who go to the bar. I just toast and cheer with them. It's fun.

3) You see a girl alone somewhere? Or at least with a friend? Just approach and have fun!

4) You won't look weird or loner if you are having a great time. People will actually love to be around you. I once started talking to two people and then asking something to the person right next to me. After 15 minutes we had a group of 10 people talking and having fun. Try it!

TL;DR: just go out and have fun

Talk to someone (anyone) quickly.

Don't sit alone for a while...people will notice this and it will start to get inside your head.

I fly solo all the time. walk in like you own the place and have been there 100 times.

Be friendly and open towards not only the other people there, but to the staff as well. If you get to know the staff you can go there any time and have social proof. Energetic, "Hey! How's your day going so far?", followed by, "my name is x, it's nice to meet you", is usually enough to get a positive response.

Introduce yourself to anybody who seems like they wouldn't mind a quick conversation. Try to get people talking about themselves and find genuine things that you can compliment them on.

Have open body posture. Stand and lean instead of sit. Make direct but relaxed eye contact (non-threatening). Smile. Ignore your cell phone and leave it in your pocket. Try not to fidget, and pretend like you own the space you are standing in.
