I mean there is an international men's day, but honestly neither the men's day nor any of these days are necessary or conducive to societal betterment. All they do is make completely arbitrary distinctions that serve no purpose other than to divide people in the name of pride in immutable attributes that nobody worked for.

I think for a lot of people, they see social equality as something which is purely transactional, but you can't counterbalance these things like it's a budgetary system. You don't break down the divides between people that were put there by ignorance and bigotry by reinforcing divides under the goal of amplification and community.

For example, as a gay man I do not find any benefit in Pride Month, because I can't be proud of something I was born with, it just doesn't compute, I'm proud of my accomplishments, not the random collection of neurons that encoded my genital attraction. I understand that there are bigots out there who would want me to feel shameful for this immutable but ultimately trivial attribute, but I don't see how pride counterbalances shame. I do not need a day, or a week, or a month. I don't understand how anyone benefits by reinforcing divisions under the guise of unity.

We don't need days for specific genders, sexualities, races or anything else. What we need is a common understanding that there are hateful people, and there are kind people. There are individuals who are suffering and there are individuals who are creating that suffering. It serves no purpose to draw arbitrary lines in the sand and generalise the two groups through irrelevant characteristics like the amount of pigment in your flesh, your chromosomal configuration or what random bit of dirt on a big spinning ball you happened to be birthed on.
