That was a smart move on your part. You demonstrated self-value. Some may even think she gave you a small shit-test with that question.

And after all, it’s just a fucking Instagram account. You could look it up on the search menu.

PS- your friend may be a white knight and might hurt your game if you hang around him in the club too much. Nothing you said to her was even close to being a dick.

Seems to me like she didn't want to be mean to him because he was your friend and at the same time get your IG. I really don't see why you had to be mean to her.

I walk up to the girl and said Hey what's your name. She smile and said Brittany, I told her my name and then said I usually don't do this but I just had to know your name.

The first issue is that you were in a club, a place dominated with non-verbal activities like dancing and listening to loud music. So it was not the strongest opener to start off verbally, the way you might in the daytime or something.

Then some guy who was trying to get her number before was giving me a dirty look and I walk away.

This shit doesn't matter. You acted as if this guy owned her.

He doesn't. And the fact is, he was more likely to be giving you a dirty look, if this girl was more into you, than into him.

Later me and my friend go back to speak with her. .....My friend started telling Brittany how beautiful she is and he ask for her Instagram.

She gives it too him and then Brittany looks at me and says "you want my Instagram too ?" her tone was kinda of in a bitchy way and I said "Idk do I need " and she says "IDK" I said "are you going to like my pictures and hit me up ?" she "No" and I gave her a cheeky smile and said I guess I don't need it then.

This whole exchange is a small odyssey of errors.

Your friend was being cringeworthy
You should have shifted to something more substantial than the whole game show of Look At How Awesome My Life is on Instagram. Like FB.
You came off insecure or needy by predicating your answer on whether or not she was going to validate you on IG by liking your pictures. This alone could have resulted in her "no" because it's also cringeworthy.
It came off as a bit petty to reject her offer of swapping contact information because she wouldn't follow you, a virtual stranger, on IG and start liking your photos. Seriously.

What you said was a dick thing to say. And she was probably bitchy also. Which was probably in response to your friend gushing about how beautiful she is, etc.

It was just mishandled.

You were at a club, so the interaction should have had more in it that was involved with the fun of clubs; dancing, eye contact, non-verbal communication.
Getting into these sorts of "who has more value" games, is a losing game. Stronger position would have involved not needing to jockey for position by responding to bitchiness (perceived or real) with dickishness.

You: Not interested in that. Let's add each other on FB.

Or whatever. The point is, that IG is largely a validation game. If you're living life for real, you don't have time to take your phone out and snap pics of it in the moment. Stopping to take the pic is, by definition, artificial and interruptive. Read: fake. You already have an app that everyone has (FB) and is great for communication so you can meet up with girls after you meet them, which I assume is the point.

And overall, asking for any contact information from her, assumes you had a decent conversation with this girl and she seemed cool. If she didn't, then my answer would change.

G: "You want my Instagram too ?"

You: "No, that's okay. I don't really know you."

And overall, I recommend avoiding the trap of going negative. It's more satisfying in the short term, but leads to bad mindset and outcomes in the longer term.
