You're on the start of your adult life. Whatever you start doing now, if you keep it up for ten years will last for literally your entire life. Martial arts. Lifting. Sports. A new language. You pick. This is the good part.

The bad part? You're just a kid for women above your age. Women your age are choosing in a much larger age spectrum than you are. Focus on improving yourself, and even in the worst conditions, they will appear. Your body is probably just finished growing; it craves for you to lift hard, run as much as you can. Take physical and mental activities which you improve you in the long run. This includes a college degree, if you can.

You know what they always told you to "be yourself"? That's not even half of the true part of the statement. "Be yourself, and always be the best version of yourself."

Did you woke up the with the same skills and potential as from yesterday? Be worried. Be very worried. Unless you're taking a few steps back for a huge leap (recovering from sickness, just took a surgery, finished a huge project), there's no excuses. Hit the gym, the nightclubs and make some friends.

Yes, make friends. Contacts. The useful kind, not crackheads and drunk bachelor junkies. People with connections. Friendships are like a business contract; you provide something for someone, and that someone provides you something. If you're taking the worst out of a deal, then it isn't worth it. Your sensitivity will change with time.

You will fuck up. Oh yes, you will. All teenagers and young adults fuck their lives up bad. What differs you from the John Doe is how you stand back up. How you take that experience. Will you use it as a fuel for your future knowledge? As anger and hatred towards something constructive, rather than destructive? Channeling emotions is a mastery. Takes time. Work it.

Girls? Yeah, go ahead. Get a girlfriend. Watch a couple years fly by and after a breakup you'll rewind just how much time you lost. Or just how much time you took to learn from yourself how we at this subreddit were right. And how you'll learn to better trust us next time.

Masturbation? Sure, empty your balls in a bucket, instead of a womb. Skip that huge event your friends are calling you for weeks. Won't take long until you'll notice just how you fucked those moments up as well. It's okay to masturbate, it's natural, mainly at your age. But don't make it a routine; know that when you "save" that urge for sex, every picking move comes more naturally, if you can control it. Control.

Speaking of control, a 17-year old you will have no control over yourself. But the earlier you try, the earlier you'll do grasp control. And when you do, by the time you're older, your sex value will skyrocket.

Your SMV roughly will triple in ten years. Even more, if you know what you're doing now. You have ten years to fuck shit up. The more you invest now, the better you will be later on.

Whatever you did wrong until now, the best news someone can give right now to you, is that you're just starting. And you're just at the tip of the iceberg on fucking shit up. Just don't do it too hard (get arrested, get drug addicted, face criminal charges, that kind of stuff that gets a permanent black record on your files) and you'll find out the best has yet to come.

EDIT: Grammar.

Something to focus on in my opinion: computer programming. If you go to university major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Math. If not those, major in anything else that teaches you an employable and tangible skill. The money you will earn will reward you and they teach you to think logically and with rational.

If friendships are business contracts, what can I offer people with connections if I'm just starting out networking? Status? How do I network better?

[–]DrakeSaint1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Money, societal value, knowledge, more contacts, humour, you name it. For someone just starting out, I'd advise you to join some new course or activity.

Let's say you want to start Muay Thai classes. Look for the ones who are training for only a few months. These guys are just starting out, and need someone to remember them the basics. When they teach you these same basics they just had learnt, they are also mastering these same stuff. It goes both ways. Congratulations, you just started a business contract with a Muay Thai newbie; you both are taking benefits from it. The newbie gets to teach you new stuff he's just learning. You get to have someone who can watch your back if you're doing stuff correctly.

Friends of friends are also a good start. You're bound to have contacts; we're social creatures. Set up a situation where you meet more people. It's not hard.

About people with connections: they'll want something out of you, and you'll need to setup a situation where you can offer something. My friend tried this with a nightclub owner who was standing in the door of his business: he said he hadintentions of investing in new DJs, and asked him what were his experiences with recent contracts. He managed to get the nightclub owner's attention with money, contacts and power, even though on reality he had none. It was a bullshit story, but my friend DID had nightlife experience on his life as a contractor, so it wasn't a complete fluke.

Learn to distinguish useful friendships from pleasurable friendships.

There are many corollaries:

  • Don't go into business with your friends.
  • It's not what you know, but whom you know.
  • Tip well and don't get a reputation for being rude to the help.
  • Maintain professional distance.
  • Don't buy a book until it has already proved its worth.
  • If a friend asks to borrow money from you, there is a reason, and you won't know that reason until after he has your money.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why shouldn't you go into business with your friends?

[–]kempff6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because what's good for the business is not always what's good for the friendship. And it's best to have only one relationship per person.

It's hard to give nongeneric advice without knowing anything about you. Are you an American 17 year old boy soon-to-be valedictorian with scholarship offers all over the place or an impoverished 17 year old pregnant girl in vietnam using an internet cafe?

My generic advice is the harder/smarter you work the next decade of your life, the easier you can take things later on.

Also, take in a a national debt lecture by David M. Walker on youtube and the crash course lecture by Chris Martenson and branch out and explore on your own more writing on those ideas. They're important because they're showing longtern trends of the world, and that's what people your age should plan on. Those two talk based on sound math and theory.

For instance, from those vids, knowing the long-term US debt problem, I might join the armed forces for shortterm benefits like the GI bill, but not go for a 20 year stint because I wouldn't count the pension being there anymore. Same with most government jobs. I also wouldn't buy a van or big car (unless for business) because gas will just get more expensive. Knowing what the US dollar lost in value the last century, and what is coming up, always save a portion in hard assets (that you hold in your hand, not paper ious). Among other things.

Make yourself the single most important thing in your life.

Always put yourself first.

Be selfish.

Focus on making money. There are many things that can be easily fixed if you do it wrong. Financials is not one of them. For example, if your body isn't as good as you want it to be, you can change your diet and hit the gym, and easily get to the top 1/2, top 1/3, or top 1/4 of men within 6-12 months. However, if you are 26 year's old, you are in a mountain load of debt, and you don't have a marketable degree, you are kinda fucked because you will probably be in the bottom half financially until past your mid 30s.

You really need something like a decade to significantly alter your finances. For example, someone can study very hard in high school and make it into an elite college, and then go through that and get a $100k+ starting salary with minimal debt because of scholarship or financial aid (elite colleges like Harvard are far cheaper than your standard University unless your parents are rich, their endowment allows very generous financial aid). Note there isn't an actual payoff until 8 years high school and college. The money game is a long game. If you in a low paying career and you want to make a career change to a higher paying field, that process can easily take 3-5 years (either learning the new field yourself or going back to school) and you start at the bottom of the new career path. It is best to get it right he first time, because if you don't, then you will likely be in your mid 30s before you are on a path that you find acceptable and a lot of your girl chasing days are behind you.

Dont get into a serious relationship for a long time.

[–]long-lostfriend2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Avoid getting into debt. That most especially includes student loan debt.

Avoid oneitis. There are millions of women out there. If you are of a mind to lock yourself in to only one someday, vet the women thoroughly and think with the head between your ears rather than the one between your legs.

Use your twenties to make something of your life. Always be finding ways to improve yourself -- mentally, physically, and socially.

Surround yourself with people who are an asset to you and add value to your life. Befriend them and find ways to be of mutual use to each other.

And learn from the mistakes you will inevitably make.

I will tell you the same thing I told my teenage son. Your Sexual Market Value is at the lowest point it will ever be right now but what you do NOW determines how high it will max out. At your age you can build muscle that will be there for the rest of your life. Hit the gym at least 3X/ week. Do some extracurricular activity and kick ass at doing it. Whether it is boxing, a martial art, wrestling, football, rugby, whatever. It is possible to choose your career path at your age via the trades- Electrician, plumber, builder, waiter, chef, rigger, truck driver etc. You might also attempt to start a business. Or go to college but try to get a STEM degree.

And learn game.

Don't get married, don't live with a woman, don't have kids.

Make as much money as possible.

[–]puaSenator1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck dude, I'm not even at the prime of my life, yet I'm 50% older than when I was your age and it feels just like yesterday.

Seriously, I know your parents said it, and you probably hate us saying it, but now is the time to work on yourself and get ahead of the competition while the rest of them fuck around: Work out, study, game bitches, and always be improving yourself. Always!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Umm, read sidebar maybe?

Stay away from drugs and alcohol. Invest time in bettering yourself across every area of competency: lifting, studying, learning to make money, networking etc.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Stay away from drugs and alcohol

These are most important especially in your formative adulthood years . Your hard wiring for abstract logic will only be delayed by substances like this.

Sure you can enjoy these things later in life when the burden of being a man calls for it, but do so in moderation is key at that point.

[–]General_Fear1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am assuming you are interested in being a PUA. So here goes.

Study something useful that will get you a GOOD paying job. Money attracts women. Move to NYC or Los Angeles. Hot single women who want to live the Sex in the City lifestyle. And LA draws women who want to trade their good looks into a movie career. So the city is full of hot women.

Live in a place where it close to the action. This will make your pick up logistics easy. If you move to NYC that means Manhattan.

Don't marry and don't live with a woman. Woman are a money pit and not worth it. Instead save every penny and retire early.

You have your whole life ahead of you. I hope you make the right decisions. Good luck.

Just one thing that will have a huge impact on your life:

Start saving 10% of everything you earn every month. DO NOT TOUCH IT.

Beware pair bonding. If you see a girl more than once a week or so, you're gonna find it harder and harder to say no to more commitment.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

boy did I try at 17... but after early success I don't even remember what happened next. I found myself 19 one day while camping alone abroad. and while I sort of had physical(muscle mass) progress , and I did start to study, I didn't quite get to talk to girls, an things seemed to be going nowhere, where I'm going with this is...

its harder to be consistent at that age . your best chances are improvement by association, if you associate with people with the right mindset you absorb their ways. ways that can be subtle beliefs or ways of talking that somehow come together inside a big picture, and thus enable the results you wanted.

if you just wait to be motivated to do something, your biology will get the better of you. and you will forget about this thread. only to cringe hard when you do remember.

going forward in life is about making choices before they are made for you, and choices are elimination of possibility in the bottom line. stop, think , bring two possibilities to your mind, eliminate one, you have made a choice. the more often you do it the better you get at it, the stronger your willpower gets.

You don't need to go to college to make a good living. Pick a trade plumber, electrician, elevator technician, or heating and air conditioning. Most of these jobs are union and pay a fantastic wage. I have a buddy that makes $35/hr fixing air conditioners on top of malls. He has zero student loans, all the training was on the job.

"If you are searching for that one person who will change your life... take a look in the mirror."

I've read this thousands of time, but never really understood its meaning until recently.

I sacrificed myself and my life to please other people. I was then left with nothing but a ruined life. I did what was needed to be popular, to get people to think I'm cool, to get a girlfriend.

And that's fine to do that.

The issue was I wasn't doing what I really wanted and that I was sacrificing my goals, my health, my family, my passions for this external validation.

Then I understood. There are only 3 things in this world:

  • You, who ALWAYS come first, whatever happens
  • Your family (and I don't mean your wife and children but your parents and brothers)
  • Your God, if you are a believer

And that there are only 3 things you have to take care of :

  • You, ALWAYS FIRST
  • Your family
  • Your carreer

Nothing will make you happier than building a great life for yourself.

Everything else is bullshit.

Nobody else is important. For other person than the people above, you just take whatever you can take from them.

Yeah, it's not fair. We are not in La-la land. The world ain't no sunshine or rainbow, it's a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knee and keep you there if you let it.

Relationships, friendships (except true friendship with male friends) are based on power. Relationship is a battle for power. The two of you fight to control the relationship and get what he or she wants from it.

Yes, you must use people like objects. They will do the same with you.

Read Shakespeare. Meditate. By being here (TRP) you will be better prepared for life than 80% of your peers.

Do your best and never regret anything.

Another way the 80/20 rule applies

[–]dallz_beep-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

We all know what you really want: girls. So here are the 3 most direct ways to get it.

1: Lift weights.

Don't be a dumbass who gets into fights. Just have a big and strong presence. It's a primal thing, and mating is as primal as it gets.

2: Play guitar.

Don't be a dumbass who takes tons of drugs and gets messed up. Just practice, bring energy to shows if you're in a band, and get laid.

3: Ride a motorcycle.

Don't be a dumbass who drives drunk or way too fast. Take multiple safety course, beginner-intermediate-advanced, and always wear a god damn helmet etc.

Forget about PUA. Put your energy into yourself. Be the pussy magnet who has women coming to him, for free. Muscles, guitar, and motorcycles will make women come and fuck you. Even 1/3 is great. 2/3 is EXCELLENT. But if you do all 3 of these you will be a supreme alpha male, the likes of which few guys can even come close.

Finally: Learn a skilled trade/study a STEM field. Don't waste $80k on a psychology degree.
