Being direct states your intentions immediately. IMHO this is the best way to convey how you see her in a confident way. I feel like, if I don't do it, I go around it and the 'succes' I have drops immense, girls feel this. If you're walking down the street and see an attractive girl you can approach her and be direct to what you see. Interesting dress? Nice hair? Great shoes or whatever? Tell her and start conversation.

Different scenario: you see an attractive girl doing something interesting, you don't have to go and be like 'Wow I like your hairstyle' (example guys, take it easy) or whatever immediately, but you can adress the interesting thing she's doing and make conversation with teases.

Vulnerability is attractive. It shows you're confident and you don't care much about a possible negative response.
It's hard to cold approach, I know how hard it is trust me. Take baby steps, you're perhaps not ready to do things like this. The first step is to talk to people in general, are you capable of doing this? ASK YOURSELF THIS! Can you talk to random people in your gym for example? No? Do it first! This is HUGE and pumps you up so next time you see that cute girl outside you have in your head the thought of 'Hey, making conversation with random people isn't so bad, and she looks like an interesting girl'.

Here's a tip for you.

Girls are used to getting compliments all the time.

You are not used to getting compliments ever.

The reason why you are hung up on this is because you're putting too much weight on your compliment.

Now, you don't need to be giving her compliment, she doesn't deserve much compliment until you actually get to know her. The only things you should be concerned with complimenting her on would be her outfit, or something basic that anyone can see, don't go further than that.

You need to just go out, and get numb to it. Here's the best tip: go out and tell 10 girls you like their shoes: "Hey, I like your shoes, what's your name".

Do that over and over again, and I promise you'll lose that anxiety.

That's why you go indirect. Most guys are not good looking enough to go direct. Pre 1 minute game should be sky high for revealing interest to be a good play. For the rest of us mortals, we have to rely on post 1 minute game to up our perceived value. If you are a model looking human being or a celebrity, go direct. Otherwise, indirect is a better play.

You don't ever get ahead by confessing feelings to a chick.

Also, if you're scared to say what's on your mind, she's going to instantly identify you as a weak man and lose any possible interest.
