Comfort in the absence of attraction is called friendship. Build attraction first. If your worry is getting friend zoned while building comfort then there's probably not much attraction between you.

I find a lot of my girlfriends have come from within my social circle/colleagues (not necessarily close friends). Really IMO the only difference between building comfort first then attraction is that you slowly progress things. For instance start by chatting with them out, getting their number, inviting them out, and then inviting them to hang out 1 on 1 and dates. You basically just act how you would making any friends just with some progression. Don’t over-invest in that relationship, and keep living a lifestyle that is attractive. If you can make friends, you can build comfort with women
