Is forgetting a power of two or a minus sign on your math homework a dumb mistake? Of course it is, but every single math student has done it because in learning math there are so many opportunities for dumb mistakes that they're bound to happen. Listening to the criticism of people who don't approach is like listening to a fifth grader who looks at your college level math homework and says "wow look how dumb you are, you forgot a minus sign."

You are going to make creepy mistakes, weird mistakes, cringy mistakes that anyone could point out in approaching, but at the end of the day you get your degree and take home the big bucks. Don't do anything against common virtue, but otherwise there's no reason to take the naysayers seriously since they aren't on the same path.

I prefer, “Don’t worry about what other people think.” It at least opens you up to the opinions of decent, even noble people.

I agree with what your saying. However, as someone who doesn’t care what others think you have to understand that I don’t want nor do I wish to entertain the unsolicited opinions of other people. There are few people I will take advice from, it is wise to pick and choose who you take seriously.

I hear what your saying. Sometimes people can come off as douches with a chip on their shoulder when they have this attitude. But you have to understand that it’s a two way street. 9 times out of 10 when someone is giving you unsolicited advice it’s mostly the other person pontificating and trying to take a position of a intellectual or moral superiority...that in itself is extremely douchey and in my book incredibly rude. Particularly when no one walks your path in life except you. This falls under one of the basic rules of life: mind your own business...it’s a lost manner that shows no sign of resurgence. If people had a modicum of respect for others it maybe could be different. In a nutshell. If I need advice I will ask the people I trust. If I want to hear dogmatic pontificating I will watch some televangelist on Sunday morning.

Instead of saying “don’t care what other people think” it should be “it doesn’t matter what people think”

Sometimes you should care what other people think about you or a situation. But in the end, if it’s your decision you have to make the choice.
