Cargo shorts are cool, I always thought. I don't even use the pockets. I was kinda taken aback when people started saying bad things about them. Years ago, some guys were passionate about not wearing shorts that weren't too short, but were like pants, and the clothing companies started making all the shorts long, which sucked for me. But that seems to have gone away. I wear all kinds of shorts but don't like them too long because they tend to flare out.

Hybrid/walk shorts. They are swim trunk material, look like golf shorts and some even have concealed cargo pockets with a zipped opening in the seam. Best of all worlds.

Whatever fits (or doesn't if a belt can fix it) doesn't have loud patterns and won't chafe.

I barely notice what I'm wearing, nevermind what other people wear, on shorts days. That is reserved for days I wear pants.

Personally I only wear shorts at home, workout or swimming everywhere else it’s jeans, chinos or cargo pants
