Well, Shapiro is Jewish, and traditionally Jews have generally regarded circumcision as mandatory (though it's less so today) and while Muslims do not regard circumcision as mandatory, it might as well be also for them.

With that said, all the so-called "medical" reasons for circumcision have been debunked and/or invalidated by the advent of modern plumbing and hygiene.

There are occaional issues that make circumcision necessary, but these are rare occurrences and are not a reasonable justification for doing it universally any more than future complications justify doing appendectomies or tonsilectomies universally.

The REAL reason that the medical community continues to advocate for the universal performance of circumcision is going to be a real shocker... I mean... totally unheard of stuff here... /s

The real reasons is that they make a LOT of money selling foreskins to the cosmetics industry.

The real reasons is that they make a LOT of money selling foreskins to the cosmetics industry.

WTF

I didn't believe this. I couldn't believe this. But the cosmetics industry does use infant foreskins in specific products. And there are people out here acting like it's normal.

None of those products contain anything that has ever been part of a human being. They are cells grown in a lab. Why anyone would want to buy such quack products idk but no one is making piles of money selling foreskins.

[–]Low_Rich_5436 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So here's how it works: these creams contain mesenchymal stem cells.

Mesenchymal stem cells are produced not from embryos but from growing tissues, and are multiplied in vitro before use.

Stem cells have the ability to grow and divide into a variety of other cells, and for reasons we don't yet fully know, even the stem cells from other individuals help the regeneration and growth of tissues. Probably because of growth factors they produce.

Baby skin is full of pluripotent cells that can produce growth factors for skin tissues. They are multiplied in lab before use. You are right these products do not contain cells directly taken from a human. They are multiplied in lab first. Still the foreskin is a necessary part of the process.

[–]Capable-Mushroom99 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So I was correct and you grossly misunderstand the need for any new source of cells. These cell lines last for decades and you could make every product for the next ten years without anyone “buying” a single foreskin.

[–]Low_Rich_5436 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Doesn't work for stem cells. We can only grow them for a certain number of generations in vitro before they start degenerating. This is still a very new technology.

[–]Capable-Mushroom99 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

False. All of the stem cell lines going back 25 years to the earliest days are still in existence. We have cell lines almost 75 years old.

Both grow up. Leave your opinions and walk away. They are both overpaid and out of touch.

Shapiro is a Jew. Of course he supports circumcision. He won’t compel it on non-Jews. But he’ll never accept a legal ban.

I’ve kept labouring the point. Circumcision won’t be banned in any society where Jews and Muslims have any significant political clout. It’s more productive to campaign so that parents do not make such a choice rather than legally ban it.

[–]flashliberty5467 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have no idea who Travis pangburn is

I do support legislation that outlaws infant circumcision

For those who proclaim we’re attacking parental rights and religious freedom

Oh you mean we support infringing on the parents “right” to mutilate baby boys

Or we support infringing on the “right” of a rabbi or iman pastor or priest to mutilate baby boys genitals

Well we’re guilty as charged

[–]shadowguyver 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shouldn't even be a fucking debate, if the child is healthy leave them the fuck alone.

[+]sgcamp 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think the topic should be apolitical and out of ideology. Insurances need to stop covering therapeutic circumcisions and through generations, it's just going to be the religious minority or the parents who are super motivated to spend out of pocket. Politics isn't going to anything, but needless bureaucracy should discourage it.

[–]Enough_Letterhead_83 13 points14 points15 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Newborn circumcision should stop being thought of as a health care option, because it’s not.

[+]sgcamp 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And I'm not due to health reasons. I just don't think politics shouldn't pick it up and I don't think there is going to be a massive wave pushing this issue. Insurances has to be at least a deterrent. The system is still down to how you want to raise your son. You can explain to your 8 to 12 year old son that other boys have that part missing and maybe he's freaked out for like a day. Parenting.

[–]Sintar07 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This actually seems like a smart, reasonable, even elegant solution. It's not like insurance wants to pay for stuff, so it could be an easy sell compared to other ideas. It's not like people want to pay for stuff either, so some of them won't, and those kids will have even less incentive to later on. Would build social momentum completely passively, and not step on the pertinent religion's toes either.

Ben is a devout Jewish man.

[–]MannerNo7000 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ben Shapiro doesn’t care about men.

[–]Roamer56 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Shapiro is a Jew, so of course he won’t deviate from his religious indoctrination.

Circumcision is male genital mutilation and needs to be banned unless medically necessary.

[–]Hawgjaw 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who cares

[+]Capable-Mushroom99 -12 points-11 points-10 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No idea who he is but if he has a problem with circumcision why doesn’t he go after Muslims instead of Jews? Yeah let’s pick on the much smaller and more persecuted group (and the ones that won’t try to kill him).

[–]AdSpecial7366[S] 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, going after Shapiro doesn't mean he is going after Jews; we can't conflate them, brother.

[–]Capable-Mushroom99 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, he just happened to pick someone from the group that is less than one percent of the size of the other group. 😉

[–]Adventurous-Win-9716 -3 points-2 points-1 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well if your religion tells you to do so then do it.

[+]Sintar07 -16 points-15 points-14 points 1 year ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I think this is objectively one of the smallest issues faced by men, and one of the hardest to fight, being culturally and in some places religiously ingrained in society. I think spending time and effort fighting enemies on it is pointless and fighting potential friends on it is a trap.

Speaking as a circumcised man, it simply hasn't effected my life. I've never felt "something is missing" or "violated" or any of the other stuff. It just is and always has been. I'd have been helped far more in my life by fair laws and policing policies, fair hiring, and social or legal clout to wield against women who abused me in the name of the sisterhood, than I'd ever have been helped by having foreskin.

When I've struggled to find a job because I'm not filling a quota, when I've been unfairly disciplined by HR, when I've spent a night in jail because a woman attacked ME, when I've desperately wanted love and family but some feminist that doesn't like me is running a whisper campaign of nasty rumors, locking me out of dating in a fairly large circle...? Foreskin was literally the last thing on my mind.

[–]Far_Physics3200 13 points14 points15 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't think it affected me until I learned just a bit about the foreskin, at which point I had a revelation. I now feel that I lost a really cool part of me for no reason.

[–]SidewaysGiraffe 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The same is true of female genital mutilation. We all agree that should be stopped.

[–]MannerNo7000 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You’re so wrong and a fool.

[–]Sintar07 -4 points-3 points-2 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Tell me how having a foreskin prevents discriminatory HR action. Go.

[–]harleypig 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I disagree with you, but I gave you an upvote because I don't think what you said deserves a downvote.

Excepting religious reasons, I oppose circumcision for children (male or female) because it's an unnecessary body modification.

And, to answer your argument that this is a 'small thing,' while valid in a way, is a good reason to fight for it. Getting rid of small problems tends to make the big ones stand out more.

[–]SidewaysGiraffe 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago (4 children) | Copy Link

A newborn baby does not have religious reasons; he does not have a religion.

[+]harleypig -9 points-8 points-7 points 1 year ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You are correct; a newborn baby is born into a religion.

A spectrum of actions can be done to a child, ranging from harmless to "absolutely not, and I'll stop you if I can." Circumcision performed "just because it's customary" falls firmly into the 'absolutely not' category for me. However, circumcision carried out as a religious requirement is different and, in my view, does not cross that line.

[–]SidewaysGiraffe 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you feel the same way about female infant genital mutilation?

[–]harleypig -5 points-4 points-3 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes.

[–]SidewaysGiraffe 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, at least you're consistent, then. Shame about the whole "human rights" thing.

[–]Professional-Art5476 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So many men instantly become defensive and make it about them and how they feel fine about it and how it "hasn't effected" their lives. Incredibly selfish.
