So my defacto partner has told me she wants out. It’s a bit of a tricky scenario so I’m wondering where I stand while we work through trying to fix things first.
I’ve basically had to beg her to try fix this, because the reasons for her desires are so ridiculously minor when it comes to triggering a split. She doesn’t like the way I talk to her sometimes, or that I come home stressed.
Here’s the scenario.
I own a business (I come home stressed, never angry and we hardly ever actually fight)
I employ her full time on a standard average wage.
She’s a stay at home mum.
We have two kids.
We never officially got married but have been together for 14 years.
The house is in her name. Her parents helped her buy it.
I indirectly pay the mortgage (she takes another $500 a week from me to “pay for things” like the mortgage etc.
I own a commercial property in a trust. She is not part of that trust.
All my vehicles are owned by my business, not me. Except for a dirt bike.
————————
If we did end up splitting, taking into account I will get legal advice… I’m curious as to what you think.
Will she and I split the house? I’ve made direct bulk contributions to it too, like a $65k deposit on the mortgage one year.
Will my commercial property be at risk? Maybe I can add a trust member that’s outside our household to remove it as fair game?
I’m in damage control here as I’ve worked my arse off to accumulate the business, the commercial property and pay this house off as fast as possible.
This has completely blindsided me and I need to know where I stand.
