I joined the Air National Guard at 30 because I hated living in a no career dead end world with no degree. Going through that I learned that only 1% of capable people go through military training. Looking at my associations on Facebook, that statistic is very true.

Other people at that age already had families, careers, houses, businesses and everything all figured out. I was going through divorce rape and got a nice wakeup that my life was mediocre and living passively.

THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.

I just had the same thought when I came back from a conference last weekend.

My friend just got a professor degree. Also, he works as a head of a clinic in an university hospital in my town.

He is my age and we were studying together. Same year, same group. Same high school.

I envied him in the past, but recently I realized that I am going my own way and this is cool, I don't have to feel sorry for his success.

I realized, that being "1st me" is better than being "2nd him" - duplicating his way of life will not be better for me than going my own way.

Of course, he is inspiring for me. And, he is my friend, kind of, but still. And, he's alpha. I'm sigma. And this is cool too, we can learn from each other. Use each other capabilities. Cooperate.

I thought for a while "we started at the same level" and then I realized, that no, we did not. I am not sure about his family, but I had abusive alcoholic/workaholic father and then I became alcoholic myself. Looking at his success and lack of social phobia traits in him, I suppose he did not had as much pathology in his life as I did. And no, I am not playing victim here - I think that much of my computer knowledge came from the fact I had a compulsive personality.

So, we are same age and same profession, but we did not start at the same level.

I used to be like this. I cut out the porn, and video games. I re-contacted old friends and have been hanging out with people from work outside of work. It's pretty good. Also Nootropics is great for you as well. A lot of those substances kill anxiety, meditation is great as well, exercise every day, and a good diet.

I think I disagree with this on the basis that implies that video games are a negative experience that need to be cut out of ones life as though it were a drug addiction. To me, It's closer to a pastime or hobby. I think there are outlier cases were individuals are playing 6 hours a day or more but casual gaming should not be a negative attribute in my opinion.

As a side note, I think that is someone was supplementing their life experiences with books rather than a more interactive medium this conversation wouldn't be necessary.

How beta is it to give up recreational activities to increase success with women?

I play video games because I enjoy them. I don't live my life over if a woman will like me or not because I play video games. Those who give up hobbies they like to "be alpha" and live every single moment of their life over the power of women? Sounds as blue pill as it gets.
