Yeah, the dog bit him because the dog was trying to protect the owner and saw him as a threat. Not necessarily a physical threat, but a threat to the dogs attention, affection and love from the owner. The OP could have done this but preferably the owner should, she should stop whatever she's doing, grab the dog by the collar and forcefully walk it (not drag) it to another room. The humans need to communicate to the dog that they care more about each others attention then the dogs attention, and both would rather be with each other than with the dog, and if the dog tries to get in between it won't just get hurt, it's strategy would have completely backfired.

See if you simply hurt it you are teaching it violence is how to solve problems. You are teaching that if it was stronger tougher or fiercer it could win the next fight. The strategy I am talking about tells the dog that if it tries to take a step in a direction you don't want, it will result in 2 steps back everytime.

Dogs don't understand concepts like punishment, they only understand cause and effect. The difference is subtle but it is the difference between and truly well trained dog and a dog that is so pissed off one day it doesn't care how hard you hit it, he's been beaten enough and is now tough enough to take the punishment if he still thinks he may get what he wants.

You can't give a dog an inch it will take a mile, and you have to be consistent. Most dogs these days are fucking nightmares because they are raised buy stupid girls who only want something cute and think their purpose is to make the dogs life as happy and pleasurable as possible.

Good luck but it's really up to the owner. You can certainly make progress on your own but if she doesn't support you and isn't 100% consistent you won't get as far. If she cares enough about you she'll do it. But if the dog is cute enough she won't do it and she'll act stupidly because she can't stand to see her lil smuggle wuffles in any state other than pure ecstasy and showered in treats and toys as it shits all over the house. Like most of the other commentors I too don't like girls with dogs. Not for the reasons they were saying because I think perfectly normal people could enjoy owning a dog, but because most of the chicks are too damn stupid and undisciplined themselves and usually end of being manipulated and outsmarted by the actual animal man bred to serve us.

An example. My roommates gf had a dog, and she and the dog were over most days a week. The dog had a big problem with stealing food off the table. She wouldn't do anything, and he would yell at it and sometimes kick it when it grabbed food. The dog didn't care, it wanted the food, to him getting yelled at or even kicked was just the price it sometimes had to pay after scoring some sweet ppl snacks. When it stole my food I would lock it in the kennel. Now it has no more chance of getting food that night. It tried to take a step forward but I made sure it really took two steps back. This never really solved the problem of the dog stealing food, but it stopped stealing food on my side of the table. If the girl was consistent in this as well the behavior would have ended. And that's were consistency comes in. If you're lenient once the dog may take the risk next time. Dogs want food that fucking bad. All the funny shit we make them do is to get the snacks at the end. They see it as as means to an end, the easiest way to get snacks. They have a one track mind, whatever they currently want absolutely consumes their thoughts and they will put up with anything to get it. The only way tog train them is to tell them there is no fucking way they will get what they want that way, even threat of violence won't do this as they can easily decide to put up with the pain sometimes
