I don't think there was anything ostensibly wrong with the article, but these types of articles always leave something to be desired. As I read more and more of these articles that tend to be long diatribes on masculinity, I keep getting a pervasive feeling that the authors don't actually care. Throughout all of these types of articles there is this consistent yet subtle dehumanising tone that feels like it's treating men, not as people, but like test subjects in a lab to be poked and prodded at. There's always the underlying questions of "what makes men tick?", and "how do we get men to be different?". It's almost certainly not intentional, but until people like the author who claim feminists and feminism also advocates for men, no longer give off the reaction of "ooh, this is surprising" to finding out that men also experience the same basic human condition, I'll have a hard time believing them when they say they do care.

You can't be an advocate with an asterisk. Either care about my problems and give some unequivocal defenses or proposals or just go away. Can you imagine taking this tact in the opposite direction? "Everyone knows women are dumb and weak and naggy and cause all of the problems in the known world BUT I guess some of them should be allowed to have rights so they can better serve my personal interests" would not be a terribly inspiring piece, yet this is the default for this kind of male-facing feminism - "I guess maybe you technically have a problem but rest assured it is trivial compared to my problems."

Women fight to be seen as individuals and actual people, yet they themselves hold a litany of myths and misperceptions about men, socially and in their personal lives. Good grief.
