The arguments advanced by the author of that article are truly bizarre. She is attempting to convince her readers that we can only reach equality by adopting unequal legislation. Someone like that has no place in the egalitarian society that she undoubtedly claims to want.

I wonder if there's a certain Freudian something to the fact that the women who cosplay The Handmaids Tale for these things never cosplay as the grey-clad Untouchable caste that clear the toxic waste and whatnot, but choose to go for the fertile women to be bred repeatedly by wealthy and powerful men and kept in a place of luxury commensurate with the man's position.

This "oppressor group" and "marginalized group" world view is narrow and simplistic. I truly can't understand how it became so popular when the real world is much more complex. It causes very real harm, with the way it turns people against each other.

Well, I have some thoughts:

Attempts to make misandry the equivalent of misogyny rely on two misconceptions: first, that gender is a spectrum as opposed to a hierarchy; and second, that victimhood is in fact a source of power and privilege.

Gender being a spectrum is a concept that came out of Feminism and LGBTQ ideology. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, but rather that it was not an idea that came from a Men's Rights movement, in particular.

As for the point about victimhood being a source of power and privilege being a misconception, the author is correct. However, perceived victimhood and actual victimhood are two different things. Actual victims often get special treatment because they need it. Actual victims are not in a position to capitalize on someone else's good will. People who pretend, who make false claims, who act the victim without being victimized to get special treatment? Well, there are many such people in this world unfortunately. Men don't usually need to use this sort of manipulation to get what they want, but many women who want to see what all they can get for themselves will take exactly this route.

Incorrect. It's feminism's desire to take away all the things that are both positive and masculine, and turn them into feminine things. Young men who are trying to find their way and want to be perceived as men will do things that are specifically for men and traditionally have low participation rates from women. And then, as young men look for something to do that is for them, their place in society as it were, they start to struggle because there is no real place for them. The girls get complimented in class for their reading, and the boys get held back? All the stories have female characters? All the authors have women's names? Well, that means reading and writing are for girls in the minds of the boys. There are very few childhood or YA books written by men for boys in the last 15 years.

Any suffering that comes from wielding power

It isn't the boys and men who punish other boys and men who want to do things that are not traditionally manly, it's the girls and women. Don't believe me? Try being a man who is into crochet, knitting, cross stitch, weaving, spinning, or any of the other textile arts. Then take your stuff to a craft sale. The women at the craft sale WILL NOT talk to you or want anything to do with you. Some things like cooking as a hobby have actually become more acceptable for men through the years, but that's an exception.

Of course the title starts with

“The fact that we're considering making misandry a hate crime should concern everyone who believes in equality”

And then, literally the next line is

“to the privileged equality feels like oppression”

This basically calls the author out as the privileged because she is calling for misandry to be allowed but not misogyny because due to her “privilege” this feels like oppression this would honestly be hilarious if it were satire. Hopefully someday we can see more of actual equality but first for that to happen any of the misogynist that remain need to be gone and any misandry needs to be gone.

Your first comment is a proof. You literally saw some people in cosplays, and got upset because they weren’t cosplaying the character you want. Because they cosplayed the women, the main character of the book, instead of a cast of men nobody know about if they didn’t read the book.
