Every men's health article these days reads like:

"Men are dying at higher rates, how does this affect women and how can we help those women?"

Besides the fact that men's health problems are, as usual, ignored or minimized, there's something striking in the way the rise in breast cancer cases is described that speaks volumes about the ideological bias that has been put in place.

I'm referring to the fact that apparently, for a woman, becoming pregnant for the first time at a later age (over 30, apparently) could contribute to the increase in breast cancer cases. This also seems to be minimized; why is that?

Perhaps because otherwise, it would lead to the conclusion that women would be better off trying to have children relatively young (under 30) if they want to have children? Maybe because encouraging women to have children young might go against the ideology which is somewhat anti-natalist (sometimes anti-child as in France)?

Indeed, many feminist movements and other progressives who advocate forced degrowth, often label any constructive discussion around procreation as a form of paternalism/domination of women. Because according to their binary vision of the patriarchal society we are supposed to live in, women would be forced to be nothing more than destined to have children and be mothers. Feminist movements often oppose being a mother in their discourse to the claimed status of emancipated and free women, the two often being seen as incompatible.

I did some Breast Cancer vs Prostate cancer Google searches about a year ago, not sure if these numbers have changed. Breast Cancer: 1 in 8 women are diagnosed, 1 in 43 women die of breast cancer. Prostate cancer: 1 in 8 men are diagnosed, 1 in 39 die of prostate cancer. The diagnosis is very close but slightly more men die of prostate cancer. Breast cancer is funded 4 times that of prostate cancer. Breast cancer is the most funded cancer of all by almost double the next cancers (lung and colon) which are the biggest killers.

In the medium sized city/county where I live there are 18 women’s clinics which provide care exclusively for women and probably exclusively staffed by women. I would guess there are probably over 1000 in the US. I don’t believe there is one men’s health clinic, exclusive to men, in the US.

Prostate cancer will never get attention because it only affects men, mostly older men, and it is a slower progressing cancer. Prostate removal surgery or prostate radiation can cure it in some cases. IN the cases where there are cells outside the prostate they put patients on hormone therapy ADT. ADT has significant permanent physical and psychological quality of life side effects. ADT doesn’t cure prostate cancer it just slows the growth. So in some cases it slows the cancer enough that men die of other causes. Sometimes those causes are from adverse side effects of the ADT. But it seems that the medical community considers that a win because they didn’t die of prostate cancer.

I have had some depressing discussions about this because people believe that prostate cancer is preventable, which it is not, so its mens fault if they get it or die of it. People also believe you just get the prostate removed or radiated and you are cured. Also not true, 15% or more chance that the treatment isn’t enough, and there is a very high risk of permanent adverse side effects of both.

Hi ! I'm curious as to why you've searched for rates of breast cancer (without noting it's also found in men) and protaste cancer - or at least why you didn't compare this data to the one of gastrointestinal and endocrine cancers as they were mentionned in the article ?

The real issue here is that you are being fed lies to gain your attention. Mortality rates are decreasing for all the cancers that are mentioned, yet the media turns a positive story (earlier detection reduces mortality) into a scare story. The real concerns for young Americans are related to social problems:

- overdoses

- suicides

- murders (specifically gang related)

- cars/alcohol (increasing a bit after safety improvements have slowed down)

All these causes do affect young men more than women. Most could be effectively addressed by government policy but instead we get policies that make things worse. Overdoses are encouraged because it’s “inhumane” to insist addicts get treatment, so we give them money to buy more drugs. Gang murders are tolerated because the people involved are all “victims” of a racist society. Huge amounts of money are spent for little or no gain in making cars more “environmentally friendly” and that has the side effect of pushing people to drive larger vehicles that are more likely to kill. And then we come to mental health where we let unqualified school counselors do experiments on healthy kids that just encourage them to think they should have mental issues. But we do nothing to encourage parents, the ones who know them best, to notice and get their kids help, lock up their guns, etc. In the end government cares more about generating money for their cronies to suck up, with fake programs that have no proven benefit, than actually helping young people.
