So my now ex wife sprung divorce on me, saying it was 100% my fault because I was “ not emotionally available “. It hurt like hell. Two weeks laters a sms popped on her iPad proving infidelity since months. I have no more precision, I don’t want to dig any deeper, just knowing is enough. She continued going out to see her “friends” 2-3 nights per week and some full weekend. She vehemently denies having an affair or dating. She’s not the bad guy, I am.
Fast forward to now, nearly 8 weeks since breakup.
We still live under the same roof. I don’t want to leave home, and would like to buy her parts so the children have some stability. Turns out since I paid everything when buying the house and reimbursing the loan, I get 70% ownership (not American, different law). She was furious seeing how little she would get. She started lawyering up immediately. Funny because just the week before she was telling me that money doesn’t buy happiness, and she doesn’t need much. Well thrust her actions, not her words
My plans remains to put my children first, but that sadly means I need to fight fire with fire, and need a lawyer to defend my rights of having them half of the time, and paying fair alimony.
I might also go to the police to register a statement saying the situation under our roof is quickly deteriorating, and that she might pretend to feel in danger or hurt. This is something I would never do, especially since it would mean the immediate loss of my job.
I kept a picture of the sms proving her infidelity. If her family (which still doesn’t know she broke up) reaches out to me, I might prove my point depending on how things unfold.
The worse thing is, with two young children, I can’t even hate her. The boys need their mom, I cannot paint her in a bad light. I need to give her some financial breathing room, else she won’t be able to afford a decent apartment for the kids. It’s tough having to help someone that lies to you upfront, has clearly no respect for a 10+ years marriage, and destroyed your family. Hopefully I have managed to keep gray rock, no screaming, managing my emotion with daily sport practice.
Cheers to all of you going through separation! Keep steady and calm in this storm.
