Women often don't make the best platonic friends. But to write off half of the population as having no value besides sex is idiotic. I have female friends who are talented artists, performers, have their own business, or any number of interesting things.

The rule is would you still be friends with her if everything about her was exactly the same except she was a dude. If so, why not?

Girls can be great friends, as long as you are fine with them fucking other guys and not fucking you. I recently met a pure RP girl, and by hanging out with her and being honest and non-sexual with her I basicaly cured depression, oneitis and dry spell.

If she is cool and adds value to your life as a true friend vs extracting value like a leech why not. In the battle of the sexes having a few allies on the other side is handy. Some of my friends are strippers, they invite me out clubbing occasionally. I play douche repellent and often the driver but they pay my way all night and when they start getting wild on each other or 2-3 start dirty dancing with me for attention it made others girls curious what made me so damn lucky and some joined the party and made guys visibly jealous sometimes. It is free pre-selection as far as I am concerned so fair trade. Having some hotties as wings can make game seem like easy mode.

On the contrary, there's no reason to be "friends" with the girls you DO want to have sex with. That being said, it only makes sense to have friendship with girls you aren't interested in. That is, if you want to.

If they are decent looking/not fat I keep one or two on hand as my orbiters, I use them once in a while to watch a movie with, go to a Broadway show with etc, stuff that I can't do with a guy but that I still wanna do myself. Of course if I have a gf at the time I go to these things with her. But I do not retain chicks as true "friends" like a do guys, that is pointless and a waste of time. Associating with ugly and/or fat girls in any capacity is a non-starter in all situations.

Yes. Female friends are awesome. They can give you perspective on life. Don't ask them for dating advice ever tho. I have a few that are excellent wing women, some I eat lunch with, others are drinking buddies. They add value to your life. But when you friendzone a woman, you have to mean it. You can't go around catching feelings for her or trying to fuck her, or drunk texting her. Because then the relationship is unclear and women need relationships to be clear.

Its always worked for me, even uglier girls can get attention but I only hang out with them if they are a SMV boost and not boring like many ladies. Someone else mentioned it but if their personality would be cool even if they had a penis then its power to have them around.
