My captain and I were having a disagreement and I realized he was getting very frustrated so I backed down and said he was right. But then he got angry because he thought I was being insincere. How can I better defer to his opinion without coming across disingenuously?
Edit: a little more context; we had a difference of political opinion. He was trying to convince me and I was trying to convince him of my side. But after a while, it became clear to me that we weren't going to be able to sway each other and I could see him getting worked up that I wasn't coming around. He tends to know more about politics than I do anyway, so I ended up just saying, "Yes, okay, you're right." Apparently he thought my tone was insincere. I really didn't mean for it to be but we've been in similar situations before. I'm not sure how to fix it since sometimes I just don't agree but I recognize that he might be right or that he cares more about the issue than I do.
I've tried to work on it, but I think he knows me so well that he can tell if I don't really mean it. It feels like a lose-lose situation because he feels upset if I disagree because he thinks I'm really wrong on an important issue or he feels upset because he thinks I'm being disingenuous.
For context; we've been together 2.5 years and are planning our wedding. He's 27 and I'm 24. Our sex life is healthy but we are long distance right now so that might be an added strain.
