I think it's reasonable to surmise that your appearance and your willingness to care for yourself is a significant signal of who you are as a person. There's a perception that people who don't take care of their bodies also don't take care of their lives in general. You'll find that many of the most high quality men and women feel the same way. I had a friend do the something similar that drove me up the fucking wall. We were at 6 flags magic mountain and there was a girl in our party that my friend liked and at one point she made him her bag holder while she went to the bathroom. I didn't have high expectations on how he would react so I knew he would oblige, but I figured he would at least give it back to her when she returned. I was dead wrong. Right as she walked away he put her back pack on with all it's girly glory and wore it around for a good hour or two like it was some badge of pride telling everyone that he was scoring brownie points by being her bag boy; it was like he expected her panties to get all soaked up because it was just so hot watching him wear her bag. Fuck'n eh that shit drove me mad. I wanted to climb up the tallest ride and jump so I could wake up from whatever fucked up dream I was having where my friend was a beta. Long story short, she barely spoke to him during an hour and half wait for a ride, let alone stand by him. I know how you feel bro.

I would've thought that when i was 13/14. I started to realize all that "like for personality" bullshit women say is indeed bullshit. I was never that beta so it was easy for me to see that women say a lot of false shit. I don't know who they're trying to fool, maybe they don' want to appear shallow or something. Looks matter.
