I go to school for a position in health care that is about 90% female dominated (sure you can guess what it is). I'm with a group now that failed last year, meaning we all failed the last semester and had to repeat.
These women constantly bitched about how unfair everything about the school was. From the tests , to the grades, to the teachers. Nothing was fair. Truth be told, they did make some good points. There were some things about the program that were screwed up.
With that being said, I sat down one afternoon with the group and one of our instructors to have a post-conference. The subject of last year came up again, like always, and the teacher who was visibly fed up, asked, "If it was so messed up, then how come all those other students passed the tests last year?"
They all agreed that it was because those students were "better guessers." I shit you not. It's not because they studied harder, were smarter, or just did what they needed to do. It's because they were "better guessers."
I tried blurting out, "give them some credit" but it fell on deaf ears. No responsibility. No accountability. It's always someone else's fault.

I have a strong suspicion we are in the same field bro. I have commented before about this field in TRP and will relate another story: I overheard the instructors discussing how they could get more males into the field. When I asked why this would be necessary, they said flat out because men are far easier to hold accountable. I was shocked. They said that women are simply used to having some excuse, frequently kids, and I thought back to the looks of shock on their faces when the instructors told them no, they didn't care if their kid was sick, they had to come to clinical, and no they could not leave early or have the Ez assignment and no no no. NO is simply not a word women are used to hearing. The instructors literally said, "most of the time in a woman's world, 'no' means 'negotiate'. Men simply expect to be held accountable. The one exception is some military women."

I worked in two offices that were mainly women;
The first was about 75% women though it may as well have been 100%. They had "Women's business" meetings men were not allowed to go to, they sold homemade jewelry in the office, there were gossips everywhere, few of the women did any actual work, there was always cake and garbage around. At one point there were FIVE pregnant women in the office (that always needed special accomodations and "breaks") and SIX engaged women that had planned months long breaks for weddings, honeymoons, etc. The place was chaos.
Me and a gay guy were the only two men in another job. It was much more professional but often everyone would just leave in the early afternoon for no reason at all (though one time it was an office wide shopping trip just because). One woman, a manager, would whine and giggle and cry like a child almost daily. They talked over the entire office so everyone could hear. Most of them forgot there was a male (me) there and would openly say things that would get any male fired on the spot. My boss, an older woman, flirted with me.
I have no problem working with women, many of them are great and professional but in the several male dominated businesses I worked for, neither of them came close to the lack of professionalism I saw in those two.
[–]NeoBushi 26 points27 points28 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
One of our employees (female) decided is was ok to show everyone a funny pic of a guy with a small dick to everyone in the office. That would get any man fired and sexual harassment on his record.

fired and sexual harassment on his record
I was fired for sexual harassment a year 1/2 ago, was bullshit of course, willing married gal caught by husband going through her phone, all of a sudden it became sexual harassment... Many company policies state outside office communications can constitute harassment within the company.
Anyway, in Washington state, all employers disclose that you were terminated without details because everyone is afraid of being sued. A litigious society has its advantages I guess...
Advice for anyone, never sign any termination papers stating a reason why, then it becomes a generic termination and you can BS your next employer.

I have similar experiences. I worked as a temp on a insurance company´s back office that was full of women and it was just like that. Nobody was doing any work and people were playing passive-aggressive mindgames all the time.

Can confirm. After working in a predominantly female staffed organization I am appalled at how badly they cross the line with no fear of ever being dragged into HR and fired.

how badly they cross the line with no fear of ever being dragged into HR and fired
Currently there, I'm the one of two men in my department (the second is youngearly 20s, no work ethic and incompetent and calls off frequently, likely soon to be fired) and I work with 5 women, two mid 30's including my manager, three in their 40's. Now, at 29, good looking and in great shape and having always been the "funny guy" turning the monotony into fun (loved in the 8 years I was in the military for this reason), they all love me and flirt frequently with me, including being quite touchy. I get the impression it's "dry" at home and they frequently "Chatty Cathy" about all that shit instead of getting work done, strangely I'm within ear shot...
Not the greatest job but it pays the bills while getting my engineering degree. Essentially I have dual job security, first, I'm the male equivalent of that hot chick at the office the older dudes want, and second, I do all the grunt work the ladies don't want to do. Simply a tactical move, I'm sure most want to fuck me, playing the ladies game in reverse.

Holy shit I was just remembering all of the sexist shit they've said about men and making sexual innuendos. I forgot all about the several times one of them has grabbed my bicep to get my attention. Hell one of em even tried to kiss me when a group of us was out bar-hopping. And that one WORKED IN HR!

Ring envy and the dormitory effect in action, folks...
[–]culofiesta 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The reminds me of the time I was a college freshman and hanging out with some friends in the girl's dorm. All of a sudden that was a wave of wild screaming from the halls. I thought there was a fire or some disaster. This wasn't the screaming at the game on the tv scream or women seeing friends scream, this was disaster screaming, the kind when people are trapped under wreckage after an earthquake.
I opened the door and saw all these girls sprinting to the other end of the hall. I listened for sirens and there were none. I sniffed for smoke and couldn't smell any.
Eventually I found out that one girl had gotten engaged and was showing her ring off. Seriously, it sounded like a scalping party in there. I was blue pill then but that was one of those moments that woke me up to the bullshit.
[–]schwingaling 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm curious, what areas were you working in to have such a female dominated workplace?
[–]culofiesta 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The first one, the worse one, was real estate. It is owned by a billionaire (not Warren Buffet, I doubt he would put up with that bullshit) that owns tons of businesses and a sports team or two
The second was a smaller publishing house.

All it takes is one drama queen with HR/legal on speed dial to come in a completely ruin the work environment. I used to love my job until she came in and caused a big stink. We're a team of really valuable and hard working men but now we have to tip toe around and be careful not to offend anyone in order to not lose our jobs. We all know who's back the company has mostly because the law is on her side but also because HR is running all of these women in the workforce campaigns and such. Specialized IT training for women? As far as I know an operating system behaves the same whether you have a dick or a vagina. It's ironic that it's hurt the company more than anything since we're now mostly putting in the bare minimum. There is no more camaraderie or loyalty to our cause.
When I first started out I was scared to put myself out there and take responsibility for big issues too but I had courage, did it anyway and GREW AS A PERSON because the struggle makes us better people. I worked around assholes and idiots and figured out how to do it effectively in order to get the most out of our interactions. I know that there are unpleasant people out there that I will not agree with yet I do not expect the world to adjust to make me comfortable.
I've worked with some awesome women too. They've been funny and smart, strong and competent (or even submissive and competent). I've never had to watch what I said around these ladies because they acted like adults. Seems like a lot of helping women excel in the workplace is just telling them to grow the fuck up. When people supplicate and cater to your every whim it only slows your intellectual growth/maturity.

"I don’t want to hire any more women. Yes, I said it. You cringed when you read it" .... ummm nope. I didn't.
She gets the ball rolling with "I get extremely angry when I come across articles that insist there are gender differences that extend beyond physiology" and then goes on a few paragraphs worth of why that is absolutely not true. Women are gossips and whiney and constantly in need of validation. Women have quite her workplace to find themselves yet, "I have not had a single male employee quit with no plan in mind."
Then she explains how she has to tell guys simply what her feedback for them is, but when it comes to a woman, "I plan, I prepare, I think, I run it through my business partner and then I think again. I start with a lot of positive feedback before I feel that I have cushioned my one small negative comment sufficiently, yet it is rarely enough. We talk forever, dissect every little piece of it, and then come back to the topic time and time again in the future. And I also have to confirm that I still like them – again and again, and again."
Even after seeing this first hand her hamster refuses to let her see the truth. Men and women are different as fuck and not just physically. We will never be equals.
Men and women are like hammers and screwdrivers. Our tasks are similar but never equal. Not greater or lesser but not equal either. Just different. You can't take a hammer and switch it in place of a screwdriver because it just doesn't work as well there. Trying to say men and women are interchangeable is like saying a hammer and a screwdriver are interchangeable.
People need to give up on this equality notion because it forces a false assumption that one of us used to be greater than the other and that was never the case. Both genders created society into what it is today but accepting their roles and doing them well.

Women are absolutely better at receptionist/personal assistant work, and nobody pretends otherwise. It's rather obvious why, they're better at Machiavellian covert communication (polite passive-aggressiveness), they're biologically wired to be much more clean & organized, they have better memories, and most importantly they are much better suited to being subservient to a man. Many genuinely enjoy it, even when there's no sexual relationship, while men detest the idea of being a servant to another man. I've known many, many older women perfectly happy being a powerful man's long-term assistant for the duration of their career. I can't picture a man being good at it for long, because they'd be miserable; I've known some gay assistants, but they've all eventually grown tired of it too and moved on to other things. Masculinity craves more freedom and progress, while femininity craves more security & social dominance. And among women, nobody's more socially dominant in the office than the long-term assistant of the CEO, she is the matriarch of social events if she chooses to be, and nobody gives her any shit.
Of course, I've also known some women that were more wired to be more masculine, and they are successful lawyers & CFO's. TRP isn't about saying such examples don't exist, just that they are the exception that make the rule, which we've always inherently known. BP society perpetuates the idea that these by-definition exceptional women are the norm, or will be the norm. But the more we create masculine women, as a natural response the more feminized men we have, and everybody is less happy.
[–]_wolfgang_ 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is a great reply. Rejecting the idea of gender equality doesn't translate directly to gender inequality, only difference.

I've hammered a nail in with a screwdriver before but you cant drive a screw with a hammer. Men are irreplaceable in business and all-women business or women-dominated businesses are doomed to failure even with the government throwing fucking money at them.
I wonder how many 'women owned' businesses are just owned by women on paper for the bennies with men doing all the work behind the scenes for them.
[–]Endorsed Contributorgekkozorz 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I can confirm that. I'm working at a "woman owned" business right now. This woman has been overseas for years and her only role in the company is to occasionally Skype in on us to see how we're doing.
[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep...
The woman dont care as long as the checks keep rolling in. As long as they stay the same or increase. Have one bad month/quarter and there will be hell to pay... Briffault's law equally applies to female business relationships I imagine.

The comments are a goldmine:
Back in 1999, I heard in class about this research that shows that women tend to speak more tentatively and apologetically in professional settings and fear what being aggressive would do to their image. I was incensed by the whole thing and ranted and raved against the sexism of the study and the people who thought it worthy of discussion. I considered the whole discussion to be so offensive as to rise to the level of hate speech, of which opinion I immediately informed the class and the professor. And now, 15 years later, it kills me to admit that the study reported an actual existing phenomenon. I’m ready to jump on the tiniest bit of proof that this phenomenon is all in my head and comes from my prejudice. If anybody can give that minuscule bit of proof, I really need it.

Military Version.
Girl in my division is a raging bitch, back stabs, kisses asses of higher ranking personal, etc. One day she reports to my LPO (Leading Petty Officer, like a manager) that there was a group of guys harassing her. The guys in question where just dicks to talked shit to everyone to get a rise out of people, they "harassed" everyone.
But she goes to him and says they are harassing her, a pretty strong charge in the military. So LPO goes and talks to the dudes and other people and gets the story that they are just assholes, but they decided that they could play this game as well. They mention to LPO that she's banging her supervisor (a big no no), and suggest she get in trouble to fraternization.
LPO tells the girl that she is being investigated for fraternization and for her sake she should avoid hanging around the supervisor. Clearly not happy with the fact that she had the tables turned on her, she goes and gets the CMEO (Command Managed Equal Opportunity) Officer and says the LPO said she can't hang around men.
Her word versus his and she wins. LPO gets transferred (honestly he's lucky that was all), eval time comes around and "somehow" she gets an EP (Early Promote, the highest score you can get on an eval, doesn't mean she got promoted but it helps) despite not being qualified in jack shit and the fact that there is only a limited number of EPs the department can give. I think that she was given the EP so she wouldn't accuse more people of sexism, but in doing so they took it from someone more deserving and now all the senior male leadership cowers to all her whims because they have careers to protect.
I really wish the military was all male. Of all the females I have worked with I would only consider 10% of them being worth the money they where paid, 80% just flirt and get all the guys to pick up their work load and another 10% are actively destructive to good order and morale.

But the amount of PC bullshit is so overwhelming that I can't see myself putting up with it for 20 years.
[–]R501 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like my 6-year experience in the Navy. All but one woman I worked with was a lazy sack of shit and got daily pussy-passes to get out of extra work, watch, or cleaning details. They suddenly get pregnant before the boat pulls out- causing some other sailor (a man) to get last-minute news: SURPRISE you're going underway and not seeing your family for 6 months!! We even had a female CPO pop for smoking pot and she got away scot-free. Said her husband put it in her cigarette (seriously?!). So much for "Zero Drug Tolerance" policy.
I used to be all about women serving in the military- until I lived it and realized they just put more burden on their shipmates around them.

This reminds me of my time working in retail. This was for black friday, and I was the only one scheduled with a shift long enough that warranted a mandatory 30 min lunch break. Well our store was slow, so we were all supposed to be stocking new inventory. I go out on break, come back and not a damn thing had been done on stocking inventory. As soon as I get back the main manager a woman tells me oh, you better get started on that. While the three of them had enjoyed a 30 minute break as well while I was gone. I almost quit right there. But I wanted to have another job before doing such a thing.

I do not contest her contentions. I do not know her experiences.
I have had different results in my past management experiences, however, and if anything, I would prefer to hire women. Despite the issues with child care and pregnancy, etc., women can contribute a great deal to the workplace.
It may be a woman-interacting-with-a-woman thing, I don't know.

"Looks more inviting in a customer facing role"
"Will suck my dick if I make it an informal part of her contract"
"Will act as trophy wife in business meetings"
Basically anything to do with appearance/sex = hire a woman. Lol.
Edit: if you need submissive people who won't question the status quo and will do as they're told, hire a woman. Women have much more respect for what they perceive to be legitimate authority.
